When Angels Sing Heaven’s Reception Song
People on earth seldom get to hear Angels sing Heaven’s Reception Song.
Only some of the souls who neared the Pearl Gates,
and then came back to this earth, have that experience.
The Boy Who Heard Heaven’s Reception Song
The machines hummed and clicked in the South African hospital room.
Nurses swished silently in and out, checking the machines, monitoring pulse and blood pressure on the tiny still form on the bed.
Seth was days into coma, malaria making mockery of a normally active 4 year old boy.
His missionary parents took turns keeping bedside vigil, while friends and family around the world kept prayer vigil. The family needed a miracle.
Then, it happened.
Seth woke up, and slowly health returned.
“Dad,” he asked quietly from his bed one day soon after waking up.
“Yes, son?” His dad expected him to ask for a treat, which he would be so glad to give.
“Who was singing?”
“Singing?”
“Yes. The other day there were people right here in my room and they were singing.”
But Dad wasn’t getting it. “Son, no one was singing here.”
“I heard them, Dad. The singing was beautiful. I can still hear them in my head. I wish they’d come back.”
Since Dad now suspected the boy had heard Heaven’s reception choir, he had no wish for them to come back.
“What were they singing?” Dad asked to distract himself from the sad thought of his son so near Heaven’s door.
Seth cocked his head. “I know the song in my head. I can hear the words. But… I can’t sing them.”
And that’s how it was.
Today, as a grown man, he still hears the words. He knows the music. But only in his heart.
Even though he is a gifted singer, he cannot sing the song he heard that day in the hospital, no matter how he wishes for it.
And so he looks forward to someday singing this song with the angels in Heaven.
When Angels sing Heaven’s Reception Song
I want to be there.
While Heaven beckons often, sometimes deeper than usual longings to be there fill our beings.
I’m not sure what the biggest draw is for me. To finally see Jesus? Getting the chance to visit with the women of the Bible? Or to sing with the angels?
So while I’m living this life here below, sometimes heaven on earth, but more often earthly with heaven seeming light years away,
I so look forward to learning the angels’ song.
“Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne
and the living creatures and the elders;
and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and
thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,
‘Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and
wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.’
And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth
and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them,
I heard saying,
‘To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb,
be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.’
And the four living creatures kept saying,
‘Amen.’
And the elders fell down and worshiped.”
