Vintage Themed Bridal Shower Activity Ideas
One of the most popular ideas going right now with the dried flower trend
is having a Dried Flower Bar.
Nope. We’re not talking drink bar this time.
But an actual flower cart or table with various dried flowers to choose from, and a pretty row of little vases for guests to make their own bouquet to take home as a party favor.
Fall and early winter are perfect for this theme, as you can incorporate your own findings from the woods and roadsides around you. So much more economical.
Hints on how to set some of the more fragile everlastings can be found here. You don’t want guests to go home with a bouquet that promptly falls apart on their sideboard.
Stems and grasses options:
Use anything possible from your local areas that you can gather yourself to supplement what you purchase. If you’ve planned far enough ahead you can grow some yourself that are easy to dry.
- Pampas, foxtail and other grasses. May need hairspray to last longer.
- Gomphrena, statice and gypsophila. These practically dry on the plant, retain great color, and are sturdy.
- Seeded eucalyptus. Another easy DIY, although few will be able to grow them. We have nice eucalyptus on our yard, but it’s not the traditional seeded.
- Star flower. This one comes in many colors. Buy it here.*
- Nandina branches, bare or with leaves. In winter these turn a pretty red, and seem dry naturally on the bush.
- Any curly branches, like curly willow, etc.

Other Vintage Bridal Shower activity ideas:
- Provide a vintage trunk with old fashioned accessories like purses, hats, shawls and scarves for guests to dress up in. The shawls could simply be old lace curtains! If you don’t have enough for everyone to wear something, use the pieces as game prizes.
- Fill large vintage glass jugs and and smaller apothecary jars with baking items, and ask guests to name what’s in the jar. (No touching or tasting.) The prize goes to the one who guesses the most correctly.
- Provide vintage looking paper and “quill” pens for guests to write marriage advice and/or quotes for the couple-to-be. Quill pens are easy to make, with a regular stick pen, ostrich feathers*, and white cotton macramé cording.
- Make the bride-to-be a recipe book, writing out the recipes in story form, the way they did a century ago.
