Mother’s and Father’s Day

Special Day for Mothers and Fathers

Mother’s Day is celebrated the second Sunday in May, and Father’s Day the following month, in June.

Anna Marie Jarvis (1864 to 1948) is responsible for the May holiday. Anna’s mother was a force to be recognized. She cared for wounded soldiers for both sides during the Civil War. After the war she organized a “Mothers’ Friendship Day,” for both Union and Confederate soldiers and their mothers.

Father’s Day was first celebrated by Sonora May Dodd. Her father was a Civil War veteran who raised six children as a single father.

So remember to honor your Mother and Father on these special days!
