Summer First Birthday Party: Boy and Girl Inspo Boards
Are you planning a Summer First Birthday Party?
Check out our Boy and Girl Inspiration Boards
for ocean themed ideas to celebrate that extra special day.
Summer, water and children go together like peanut butter and jelly on bread.
So “first birthday party” and “ocean theme” seem like a given for summer.
Side Note: Have you heard that newborns know how to swim? They don’t. They have to learn just the same as they have to learn to walk. However, learning to swim is easier for babies because their natural reflexes in water are like swimming strokes. Pregnancybirthandbaby.au says it’s best to wait till babies are 2 months to take them swimming. And if they’re younger than 6 months make sure the water is heated to about 88° F, because their bodies don’t self regulate.

Here’s a list of props that come in handy for a nautical birthday party:
- Fish Net for wall decoration or table toppers. E.g. trail the fishnet down the center of the table and add seashells, starfish, sea glass, floral arrangements and more for a centerpiece.
- Ship’s wheel, buoys, lighthouse, life jacket rings, anchors
- Lobster trap, ropes, pier posts.
- Treasure chest, vintage maps, spyglass, port and starboard lanterns

Buoy rings. Love this idea with the pier posts, rope and buoys.
Treasure chest. This treasure chest is quite small, okay as a prize chest. If you want it for floor decoration, try making one out of a cardboard box.
Fish netting. Netting can be used so many ways. As table covers, wall hangings, draped on chairs or a lobster trap or treasure chest.

Floor cloth. Cute crumb catcher and floor saver.
Ship’s wheel. Great for wall décor behind the food or gift table.
Sea shells and starfish. So many uses!

Can we put on a sweet girl’s beach theme first birthday party without the uber-cute Walt Disney or Pixar images coming to mind?
There’s nothing wrong with going that route, like buying Little Mermaid party goods from Walmart.
Let’s make this more organic…

Starfish and Seashell Banner. Idea: Use with the picket fence decal as a wall backdrop.
Cabana stripe beach towels. Idea: Use as chair or floor cover, e.g. baby’s high chair. Style and crumb catcher in one!
White tulle table skirt. The puddling on the bottom makes it look like foamy waves. 🙂 Take note of the size before you buy. This skirt is 90″ wide, and tacks on around the table. If it needs to go all around the table you may need more than one.
