about meeting a VIP, senior moments, and black lights.
VIP Night
This evening we met a Very Important Person. Our future sister-in-law.
I think I told you about printing their wedding invitations? Well, I had never seen her in person. Never talked to her face to face.
This weekend she came out from Louisiana with her “adopted” parents, and we’re getting to know each other. I can see why our brother-in-law fell in love with her. They are totally meant to be together. And now that it was God’s timing for this to happen, He brought them together! They’re going to live here to start with (maybe for always, but she’s not selling her house yet), and I’m looking forward to fun family times together. It’s four weeks till the wedding.
Aren’t God’s ways truly amazing and wonderful?

Forever Wedding Card Tutorial and The Almost Wedding. We first published this post 5 years ago, but the tutorial needed updating, so we republished.
How to Choose a Theme For Hosting a Baby Shower. Another republish with updating.
Lemon Drops, Lemon Meringue Pie Recipe and a Life 101. This is kind of a nostalgia post for me, since we lost our lemon tree to a plow wind last summer.
Glow-In-The-Dark Fun With A UV Flashlight. I ran into an Ace Hardware the other night for contact paper, and saw these flashlights. I just knew that some kids could have a lot of fun with it. The clerk was a teenager and I asked him if he thought girls could enjoy a black flashlight. He said, “I used to have fun with 2 sticks!” I gave him a big smile and said, “I like hearing that. It tells me something about you!”
7 Tips to Help Overcome Jealousy Towards Women Peers. While Bruce and I were having devotions together Friday morning these thoughts popped into my head. It wasn’t what he was reading; my mind was wandering. Maybe because we have a wedding in the family coming up and I have clothes on my mind…

One week into 2022…
And our work this week was still all about calendars. Baby calendars, event calendars. Family calendars.
Two of these went in the mail:
Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
The World Outside Our Work Window
Senior moments aren’t fun. When you’re younger and you do something silly you just laugh it off. After awhile anyway. Depending on how embarrassing it was.
But when you’re a grandma and your moment of pain happens rather publicly, it takes a little to swallow the lump and let people think what they will. Because it truly was ridiculous. As hard as it is to admit.
Last Sunday morning I went to Church. My husband stayed home with a cold and a treated skin cancer spot on his face that looked bad. After Sunday School I sat down in the pew, with my middle g’little snuggled beside me, and prepared to enjoy the spiritual food.
But my mind had a… well, a mind of it’s own. I got this startling thought that totally took over and I almost panicked. Kim got a speeding in a construction zone ticket awhile ago, and we had signed her up for traffic school. For Sunday. And she was at home, relaxed, oblivious, as far as I knew. I couldn’t leave it. What would happen if she didn’t show up and didn’t acknowledge she wasn’t coming? She had already gotten special permission to do this from the court, as she hadn’t taken care of her ticket on time. (We never saw the paperwork, and she lost it.)
So, in the middle of a hymn, I got up and left. As soon as I left the parking lot my brain started working, and I remembered clearly that her school was next Sunday.
What was happening?
Clearly, my mind wasn’t. Why couldn’t I relax and think properly in Church?
Do these things happen to remind us to stay humble?

He couldn’t concentrate.

Books of the week:
“The Fisherman“*
by
This is a friend’s recommendation. Thanks, Ruby!
I have this book on order, and haven’t read it yet. It comes with high recommendations!
Amazon:
“Few New Testament characters are as fascinating as Simon Barjona, the man called Peter-a reluctant disciple who changed the face of Christianity. For more than twenty-five years, author and pastor Larry Huntsperger has spent hundreds of hours studying New Testament documents in preparation for writing this fictional first-person account of the life of this enigmatic disciple.
The result is a novel that faithfully follows Scripture while offering a powerful, fresh narration of the story of one of Christianity’s greatest men. In the fast-paced chapters of The Fisherman, readers will relive Peter’s initial resistance to the pull he feels toward Jesus and his ministry. They’ll walk with Peter alongside Jesus through the events of the Gospels and catch intimate glimpses of the disciples’ personalities. They’ll even “feel” the dust on the roads as familiar stories are transformed into original, spellbinding accounts from Peter’s life.
This fascinating novel will help readers “to see the Master as a man. For, if we cannot see him correctly as man, we have no hope of understanding him correctly as our God.”
Our children’s book pick,
“The Wonder Garden“*
by Jenny Broom, 2010
At first this nonfiction, expensive book might not look worthwhile to a child. But put the lights out and turn on the UV flashlight, and magic happens. The pages are fluorescent. I’m not sure why Amazon doesn’t share that info, but this post talks about it.
Amazon:
“Open the gates of the Wonder Garden to explore five of Earth’s most extraordinary habitats, each filled with incredible creatures and epic scenery. Trek through the Amazon Rainforest, travel to the Chihuahuan Desert, dive in the Great Barrier Reef, delve deep into the Black Forest and stand on the roof of the world – the Himalayan Mountains – to see nature at its wildest. Breathtaking, engraved illustrations bring to life Earth’s spectacular Wonder Garden.“

Inspiring Quote
Now for the week’s fridge quote.
I discovered that last week’s printable wasn’t distinct enough, so I remodeled it. This has the Dunn Edwards 2022 Color of the Year: Art and Craft. Give it another try, if you were disappointed last week. This is the January calendar page from our Minimalist 2022 Calendar. It’s a small size, only 6″ x 9″ and you can pin it or prop it up anywhere. In spite of the small size, there’s space for adding notes if you wish.
How To Get It:
Go to this page and fill in the form. This adds you to our email list, or, if you’re already on it, verifies you’re still one of our GIFTees.
Then comment, “Quote 162” and we’ll zip the two options over to you.
