‘Ink Re-Cap 140: Sketches and Inklings of Handmade Stationers
‘Ink Re-Cap 140.
Sketches, scribbles and inklings of the life of handmade stationers.
PC decision made and purchased, printing event calendars,
and a g’littles July sleepover.
This week, wait for it, the desert got rain!!
Not very much. But enough to cool things down to a low sizzle. Even to comfortably go outside in the evening. That means the worst is over for this summer. The grip of humidity and heat we usually get around July 4th, so oppressive!, is hopefully over for this year.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not going out in the middle of the day anytime soon,
and we’re planning a San Francisco getaway for our anniversary in 2 weeks. It’s 60° F there. But we’ve never been there before, and it will feel great to wear a sweater again.
Anyone have any recommendations on where to stay and what to see there?

The July g’littles sleepover Saturday
The g’littles have been asking to have a sleepover Saturday
ever since we all got home from Nebraska.
I’m ashamed to confess I need a little mind-prep to decide to do it.
The idea is high in my priorities
but I realize it takes more than mind prep to actually have them come.
They’re super active girls; all three are marvelously unique,
and when they go off in three wildly different directions it’s hard for a grandma to keep up.
So the stars sort of have to align to make it work.
Grampa needs to be around to help quell the squirts
and we need a tight line up of activities
so couch potato-ing with electronics doesn’t take over.
With school starting in a month, Kim suggested dressed up composition books.
Sounds like a great plan to me.

Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
Cafe du Monde Beignets:
If you’re in New Orleans, and if you’re near the old square,
be sure to stand in line at Café du Monde and order a brown bag of beignets.
Then walk back to the steps up over the levee to watch the ships and devour those delicious squares of fluffy dough.
Grampa wants to make these today with his g’littles.
This is a first for us, so we’ll let you know later how they turn out.
Inspiring Book: “A New Light on Tiffany: Clara Driscoll and the Tiffany Girls”
by
I can’t believe I didn’t know anything about the Tiffany girls until this age of my life.
Like, really? Tiffany glass is so famous, the Chicago World Fair equally so, and I didn’t know about these girls who saved the day for Louis Comfort Tiffany?
Fascinating history.
Your children might enjoy a touch of Tiffany with this coloring book:
Try “Tiffany Stained Glass Coloring Book” by Pomegranite.
The designs are on see-through paper so they can be removed from the book and mounted in a window.
Miscellaneous
Our totally useless factoid for the week.
In the early days of the telephone, operators would pick up a call and use the phrase, “Well, are you there?”
In 1895 someone suggested the more polite phrase “number please?”

I came across this watercolor art by accident, and purchased the rights to use it. I love it. You’ll probably be seeing a few items with these wildflowers in the future.
