There’s a new name on the wedding theme block: cottagecore.
I would say cottagecore basically describes most of the weddings and bridal showers I’ve attended and/or heard about in the last year.
It’s casual and relaxed, yet elegant and ethereal. Each bride, of course, has her own interpretation of the look. Which the name lends itself to so well: you have the basic core of a cottage style, but there’s many ways to go from that core. Cottage can be interpreted as English countryside, with pretty pastel gardens, or it could be Anne of Green Gables, with wildflowers and meadow grasses.

What is the Elegant Cottagecore Wedding Aesthetic?
Some words that describe the essence of cottagecore:
- romantic and chic, not opulent or ornate
- laidback and carefree, but not bohemian
- natural and organic, but not burlap rustic
- wildflowers or cottage garden flowers
- artisan breads and handmade desserts
- upscale yet casual
- rural meadow with fairytale whimsy
Elements of the Cottagecore Wedding Aesthetic:
- Voile or airy cotton tablerunners in tiny prints interspersed with vases of single flowers with a few grass stems, or mini bouquets on woven placemats.
- Linen. For dresses and shirts. Napkins and tablecloths.
- Wicker or woven reed baskets, either in white or natural. In a food line, serve breads in a woven hamper. Use a basket-suitcase for cards.
- Garden or meadow flowers mixed in with casual florist choices.
- Tiny prints or florals for the bridesmaid dresses.
