Tools You Need for your Back Bodice Pattern DIY:
- 1 ” Tru-grid, available here.
- 60″ Seamstress Measuring tape
- Pen or pencil
- 18″+ ruler
- 2 yards of String
Back Bodice Pattern DIY: Place the Dots
- Mark Point A: 1/2 the measurement across your back, shoulder to shoulder. Point A also meets the measurement from the red bust string to the shoulder at the top of the arm.
- Next is Point B: 1/2″ up from the imaginary line formed by the first measurement, then 3.5″ or 4″ from Center Back.
- Point C: 1″ below Point B, then back to center, placing the mark at Center Back.
- Down Center Back to Point D: This is the Back Neck/Shoulder to Back Center Waist measurement.
- Point C to D form the Center Back, which you can mark “Place on Fold.”
- Point F: 1/2 the Back Waist measurement, usually a straight line.
- Underarm Point E: 1″ below arm, at the point where a straight line crosses the end of the red bust string and meets Point F.
Step 2: Connect the Dots
- Connect all the dots with straight lines except for the neckline and the armhole.
- The neckline shape can be drawn in any shape you wish. However, for our beginner purposes, try to copy the shape of the line you see in the drawing.
- Connecting Point A and Point E creates the armhole. The back armhole tends to go downward in a fairly straight line for 2 or 3 inches, then curves slightly, forming a sharper curve as you get closer to Point E.
