Zacchaeus Climbs A Tree: A Poor Rich Man Finds Jesus
Zacchaeus climbs a tree: A poor rich man finds Jesus.
A rich man is poor when he doesn’t have Jesus in his life.
When Jesus came to his town, Zacchaeus sat high on a branch
so he could catch a glimpse of Savior.
Zacchaeus Climbs a Tree
“The rich man adjusted his hat, and patted the front of his robe. He sat up straight at his tax collector’s table. “Twenty pieces of silver,” he said to a man who owned a tent factory. “Two mites,” the sandal maker had to pay.
“That is too much. He is robbing his own people.” The merchants sneered to each other as they paid their taxes.
Clink! Clink! The rich man watched each coin drop into the money box. After work he carried the money box into his fine house and closed all the doors and windows. He counted the tax money and put it back into the box. He slipped some extra coins into a sack. Then he hid the sack and went to bed. He lay awake for a long time. Would someone try to steal his extra coins?
One day while collecting the taxes he heard a great hustle and bustle. There were many people in the street. “What is going on?” he asked.
“Jesus is coming to Jericho today!”
Jesus. The man everyone was talking about; the man who forgave sins. The rich man’s heart pounded. Why did he think about his hidden bag right now?
The rich man tried to peer over the crowds, but he was very short. He jumped up and down, but he could not see Jesus. He saw the low-hanging limbs of a sycamore tree. Should he? Would people laugh if they saw a rich man in a tree? “I want to see Jesus,” he said.
This story has a very happy ending.
Jesus saw Zacchaeus up in the tree and said He wanted to come to his house.
Wow! That would be like the President asking to come to your house, only Jesus has the power to forgive our sins and make us free and happy as if we’d never done anything bad!
Don’t you wish Jesus would see you, maybe rollerblading in the park, or sitting in your desk at school, and ask if He could come to your house? Would you be excited? Nervous? Worry about what you’d give Him?
Zacchaeus found out he didn’t have to worry about a thing. Jesus was the best, easiest, kindest visitor ever!
