Vintage Tag Ephemera Cricut Design Tutorial
Vintage Tag Ephemera Cricut Design Tutorial. Learn to make your own junk with this step by step Cricut design tutorial. A great simple start to creating stuff for junk journaling.
Does it seem as if you’re always buying stuff for junk journaling?
Stickers and tags and tape and glitter and on and on and on.
Then you use a couple from each set, and you’re left with boxes full of odds and ends…
that are too nice to throw away, but when will you ever get to use them?
I’m kind of allergic to spending a lot of money on junk journaling, so I usually make do with what I have in my stash, or I design what I want for a particular project on Cricut design space. Now, I love designing, so that’s the best part of the process.
If you’re not really into designing, but you also want to save money, here’s an easy step by step tutorial to get you more acquainted with your Cricut.
Ready? Let’s go.
Create Ephemera for your Vintage Tags
This tutorial began in this post.
This tutorial is full of screen shots, with a little explaining to make it as simple as possible.
We’ll begin with the “Love” word.
- Set up your Cricut Design Space with a new project screen.
- Choose “Great Vibes” font. Type each letter separately. Make the L bold, 3″ tall. The rest of the letters are regular, 1.5″ tall.
- Position the letters so they overlap, as shown. The “v” and “e” don’t have an overlap, so we create one with a square from shapes. Unlock the square and make it into a teeny, tiny rectangle. Angle it so it connects the two letters.
- Select all the layers and weld them together.
- Cut the Love word from any card stock. We used a pearlized cream color.
Create a Flower in Cricut Design Space
The flower is more complicated than the word.
But no worries, you can do it. It takes patience and precision. To achieve precision, maximize your screen up to 200% or more. And follow each step in order.
Lucky for you, I spent the morning finding out which sequence got the best results, so you won’t have to waste the time I did figuring it out.
The Flower:
- Probably the easiest method follows these screen steps in red. That way you’ll know how it should look on your screen.
Note: Sorry about the repeated petal directions. Don’t let my mistake confuse you!
Finish Up the Vintage Easter Tag
Here are the steps to completing the tags.
- Cut each tag to shape. Attach mounting tape to the back of the smaller tag.
- Antique the edges of the tags with a brown ink pad. We added a grunge embossing powder to the edges of the small tag.
- Adhere the small tag on top of the large tag.
- Punch holes through both tags on top and attach string. We used jute twine.
- Wrap the tags with rustic twine (we pulled threads from jute fabric). Tie a bow or knot. For our Easter theme we stuck a nail (screw) through the knot.
- Glue your “junk” ephemera to the tag. We placed the “Love” word on the bottom, the Cricut flower on the top right. Then we added jute flowers with gem centers here and there.
