Vintage Easter Tag Tutorial Using Photoshop and Cricut
Vintage Easter tag created from scratch with a tutorial using both PhotoShop and Cricut. Challenge yourself to perfecting your PS design techniques!
So with Easter coming right up our vintage Easter tag
will keep the special weekend front and center in our minds.
A lovely visual to remind us what Jesus suffered for us.
It’s good to do some thinking on this.
Because, often, the rest of the year, we’re not deeply pondering it, and the true impact eludes us.
Vintage Easter Tag Photo Shop Tutorial
This tutorial starts with a Photo Shop Elements lesson. You can get a free two-week trial here if you don’t have PhotoShop Elements. (We are not paid to tell you that!)
If you’re not into designing with Adobe, go to our contact form and request “Vintage Easter Tag template.”
Open Photo Shop Elements Expert Screen.
- Open a New Blank File: letter size, 300 pixels, RGB color, white background.
- Up in the top menu bar, pull the View menu down and pick grid. This helps to size things.
- Pick color c09100 (gold) and with rectangle tool, draw a 3.5″ x 7″ rectangle. Simplify the shape on the right layers menu. Right click the shape, click on Simplify Layer.
- With ellipse circle tool, draw an oval 3.5″ x 1.25″. Simplify the oval layer. Place it at the top of the gold box with half the oval above the top edge.
- Right click on the oval on the layers menu, and choose duplicate. Make a total of 3 ovals.
- On the left menu, choose Move Tool and separate the ovals.
- Size second oval to 2.5″ x 1.25″ and center above first one.
- Size the third oval to 1.5″ x 1.25″ and center above second.
- On right layers menu, click on the top oval, hold down the shift key on the keyboard, and click all the layers you made.
- Right click the chosen layers and choose Merge Layers.
- Right click the merged layer, and click Duplicate Layer. This creates a second tag. With the move tool from left menu, move the tag beside the first one and make 1/4″ smaller all around.
Your tag shapes are done. Aren’t they beautiful?
Decorate the Large Vintage Easter Bookmark
- For the larger bookmark, fill out our contact form and request “Vintage Easter Tag designs” and we’ll share the designs we used.
- Paste image above background. Then enlarge and position to cover the tag.
- With Rectangular Marquee Tool from left menu, select a box the size of the tag. Right click and click “layer via cut.” Then right click and delete the layer you don’t want.
- From left menu, choose Erase tool. Choose Basic Brush #300 from the lower menu. On right menu, select the print layer. Run erase tool all around the bookmark, barely overlapping the outside edges.
- Select printed layer, then move above tag layer. Even up the leaf layer edges.
- Select brush opacity 14 on the lower menu. Run erase tool over the print layer. This creates a vintage look.
- Right click print layer on right menu, and select “merge down.” Large tag is done!
Design the Small Vintage Easter Tag
- Select the small Vintage Easter bookmark on right menu.
- Size the print to fit the width of the tag. I lengthened mine 3/4″ to cover more of the height. De-select the grid view from the top menu bar so the next steps work better.
- Select “lasso tool” from left tool menu, then select a section of the flowers from the song print. Right click the selection and choose “layer via copy.” Select the move tool and then move the flowers to the top of the tag. Enlarge/duplicate flowers to cover the area, then do the same for the bottom of the tag.
Flatten the flower and song image into one. Then move the song below the tag. Repeat steps 4 to 7 of the large tag to create the small one.
Next Step: Create Tag Ephemera with Cricut
I think this tutorial is long enough for this time!
