Top Baby Names for 2020 and Popular Nickname Names
The top baby names for 2020 might surprise you.
Would you name your baby a nickname?
Many parents do, so here’s the top picks for nicknames as names.
I’m always curious about the stories behind the names that parents pick for their babies.
And why do some children end up with nicknames and others stay Martha or Andrew or Jackson all their life?
There are some names that don’t lend themselves to diminutives, like the above mentioned Martha, or my name Dorothy.
And yet, I’ve had a lot of different nicknames.
The first was “Dokie” because my little brother was learning to talk. That evolved into “Cookie” which some people called me throughout my school years. Sometimes I was Dottie, Dot or Dorth.
Most fun are the nicknames that have nothing to do with the given name, but stem from a trait or something that happened somewhere along the way. Like the tall Lonnie I only knew as Stretch until he got married.
It’s so funny to hear a mom call her daughter Dollie when she’s all grown up and has her own baby!
