The Sacred Power of Wedding Vows Spoken Before God
The sacred power of wedding vows
when spoken before God
forges the solemn bond in a few short moments
that becomes your forever.
And in those moments…
the intense, emotion packed moments
when the minister asks the questions the bride and groom will answer in the affirmative;
In those moments,
Heaven becomes silent.
Even the angels quiet their singing and listen as God binds two people together
Forever.
The Bible doesn’t say this, of course,
but don’t you think that’s what happens?
It seems God would cause something momentous to happen in Heaven while something so important is happening on earth. From scriptures that speak about such things, we can assume it could happen.
And also, the Bible doesn’t have the traditional wedding vows listed in the way they are typically spoken.
The vows are based on Christian principles, and surely much thought and prayer went into the modern construction of them. Concise, yet complete.
They are based on scriptures such as Genesis 2:24: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
and Mark 10:9: “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”
How can you access the sacred power of wedding vows spoken before God?
God has special plans for you, and you can live those plans for marriage
when you follow God’s will for your lives.
A minister said finding your life partner means “going to the Well.”
When Abraham wanted to find a wife for his son Isaac, he sent his servant to the far country of his people, that Abraham left so long before. The servant asked God to help him find the right girl. The girl God had specially chosen for Isaac. Because he knew that only the right girl would leave her country to go with him to a far country to marry a stranger. He found this girl at a well.
The wonderful, awesome business of falling love with the right boy or girl should send you to your knees, approach the only true Well of knowledge with sincere prayer.
When God approves the union, you will have His blessing, giving you a special, sacred power that will be yours to access through all the joys and sorrows, richers and poorers of marriage.
Because life is going to throw all manner of curves your way, and you’ll need a Power beyond yourselves to navigate safely. Power to stay side by side on the path, while forces of deception try to separate you.
I’m repeating what I’ve heard ministers say at so many weddings throughout my life. But my life in a 39 year marriage also has given me plenty of chances to learn the necessity of a Power beyond our own.
Go to the Well every single day
to keep the sacredness in your marriage.
