The Rich Man and Lazarus Parable Teaches Kindness
Pray Always Children’s Bible Lesson is the story of the Parable of the Persistent Widow and how her desires were persisted diligently in prayer.
The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus
The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is found in the Gospel of Luke.
A rich man lives in luxury while a poor beggar named Lazarus desires just the scraps from the rich man’s table.
But the rich man commands his servants to send the man away, without a shred of kindness, and no food for the hungry man.
After death, these men’s places are reversed. The poor beggar is in heaven, living in comfort in Jesus’ presence. Meanwhile, the wicked rich man, because he did not love God, suffers in hell.
This Children’s Bible Lesson portrays that riches do not mean God prefers you above others and therefore blesses you. God loves the poor man just as much, and because the poor man loved God, he could spend eternity in heaven.
This lesson also highlights the rich man’s lack of kindness. How easy it would have been for him to share his riches with the beggar. Instead, he chose to be mean.
The great message of this parable is that our actions here on earth have lasting results. How we treat others will impact our place, whether we go to Heaven or hell after we die. It is so important to treat all people with kindness.
What are Parables?
Jesus told many parables to the people who gathered to listen to him. The parables are stories that teach us how to live as God wants his people to live.
The parables use everyday happenings to teach deeper truths, which mad it easier for the listeners to process the complex concepts Jesus was teaching.
There are several reasons Jesus told parables:
- To reveal the mystery of the kingdom of heaven to the people who want to learn.
- They fulfilled the prophecy that foretold the Messiah would speak in parables.
- To separate the people who listened to really learn from those who didn’t care. We need to delve deep to understand the parables.
- To provoke deeper thought. The parables make us think and reflect to truly get their value.
- They are meant to create a response in each person’s heart.
- Sometimes, the parables hid truths from those who were not ready to receive them or who had hardened their hearts.
