Sew for Baby DIY, Monogrammed Bib and Burp Cloth Set
Want to sew a gift for a new baby in your life? This monogram bandanna bib and burp cloth DIY is fun and fast.
This is the second part of this project. In the first part, Monogram Bandanna Bib and Burp Cloth DIY, we cut the white pieces of the big and burp cloth set. Then we painted the monogram on both pieces.
Let’s do the next step, and before you know it, that baby sweet cakes will be all dressed up and ready to drool!
Sew for Baby DIY: Finish the Bandanna Bib and Burp Cloth Set
Step 1
Cut the back pieces for the bib and burp cloth. Choose an absorbent fabric for the backs, such as cotton knit or cotton flannel.
You now have a total of 4 pieces.
Step 2
Lay the two bib pieces and the two burp cloth pieces on top of each other, with the right sides of the fabric facing the inside. Pin around the outside edges.
Step 3
Sew all around the edges of the pieces with a 3/8″ seam.
Leave a 2″ to 3″ opening on one of the straight sides of the bib and burp cloth to turn the pieces right side out.
Step 4
Turn the pieces right side out, carefully pulling the fabric through the openings you left in the seams in Step 3.
Press the edges as flat as possible, then top stitch 1/4″ from the edge, all around both pieces. This will secure the openings where you turned the pieces right side out. (Be sure the seam allowance is caught into the topstitching.)
Step 5
After pressing and top-stitching the bib and burp cloth, you will need some sort of closure for the bib.
I used heavy duty snap fasteners that I found in my stash. You’ll need a snap pliers to attach the fasteners. This is the easiest and quickest way for me to create a closure for a bib. However, if you don’t have the tool and don’t wish to buy one, a buttonhole and button will do just as well.
Whoo hoo! Isn’t she sweet with her monogram bandanna bib?
This big baby girl looks like an angel who would never mess her lovely bib, but don’t count on it.
