Recycled Christmas Card Ideas to Deck Your Halls
Recycled Christmas Card Ideas to deck your halls.
Banners, Mini Wreaths, Gift Tags, Jar Gift Lids and more.
Because you can’t just trash all the lovely holiday cards
that make your celebrations more jolly.
For some reason I messed up a lot of Christmas cards this year
while getting orders ready.
Printed the inside upside down, or the wrong paper was in the tray…
Careless, disgusting mistakes
that cost me money.
So I can’t just throw them all away, right?
Besides, some of the designs are too pretty to just trash.
I was brought up by Depression Era parents, after all.
What’s the old mantra?
“Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.”
A lady in a FB Decorating Group sadly commented she couldn’t spend as much money
as the other members to decorate for Christmas.
(Why were they even asking how much everyone spent??)
Another member asked her why she was in the group then. (Yes, she really did.)
I wish I could show the first friend this post…
Gift Tags and Gift Decorations
These illustrations show the different ways we decorated circles.
Then the circles can be used for any of the following ideas.
Recycled Christmas Card Mantle Banner
Print out a blocky font and cut it out.
Trace onto cards and cut out.
Punch holes and string it together.
Pine branches and weeping acacia branches with last year’s white painted logs in an old dented metal pail on my front porch.
It’s dry enough here that it could last quite a while without dissolving. The main problem could be fading from the sun!
If you wanted it for outdoor use, it could be laminated.
Jar Lid Mini Wreaths
Not only can we recycle the old Christmas cards,
but we can use up old canning jar rings/lids for this project, too.
Let’s make a mini wreath…
Gift Jar Lids
I got home grown popcorn this fall from a friend in Michigan. White popcorn that pops up so fresh-tasting and organic looking. 🙂
Poured into a vintage jar from my mom, with the old gray jar ring as the frame to a card circle…
Old-fashioned up-cycling at its best!
You could give jar gifts using card circles to decorate the lids, and even hanging tags. So many options there: cookie mix, brownie mix, hot chocolate mix, special Christmas blend coffee beans, homemade candy…
Magnets
We edged the circle with glue, then dipped into red glitter.
Glued to a magnet circle, it now decorates the washboard that doubles as a magnet board in my laundry room/office.
Gift Decorations or Gift Tags
This is an empty ribbon roll. We cut circles for both sides, then wrapped the edges with gold mesh ribbon and foil star wire.
Ready to top a Christmas gift or hang to the handles of a gift bag.
Recycled Christmas Card Idea: Window Hangers
The circles we decorated in the first step, with punched holes and package string.
They are rather sweet, even if the pictures don’t show it.
