Quick and Easy No-Sew Phone Pocket
Quick and Easy No-Sew Phone Pocket.
Wear this mini tool apron so you don’t lose calls
while you go from kitchen to basement to garden.
This isn’t a magic cure for never leaving your phone in the wrong place,
and it’s not as handy as a built-in pocket.
But this can be a great no-sew solution to keep your phone (and earbuds) with you so you don’t lose calls.
And you can wear it cross-body or tied around your waist.
Easy No-Sew Phone Pocket
What we used:
- The right front pocket of a pair of jeans (for the phone) with a coin pocket (for earbuds)
- Extra loop from the pair of jeans
- Hot glue gun and 1 glue stick, scissors
- Selvedge from a couple yards of hanky fabric (left from a different project).
How we did it:
- If you look at the top picture in the collage, you can see we cut the pocket on a mostly straight grain. This meant we trimmed some of the coin pocket off on the right side, and both pockets all the way around. We left the denim part longer than the pocket to make fringe later.
- We trimmed the side seam of the jeans off on the left side of the pocket to reduce bulk. This meant that we had to glue the pockets together, and then glue the denim to the pockets.
- Be sure all the pocket edges and denim is glued together.
- Glue the extra loop to the side of the top band without a loop.
- Cut the fringes.
- Loop the hanky fabric selvedge through the loops.
- Tie to wear at your waist like a mini tool apron, or crossbody (which I prefer).
Ideas to improve the no-sew phone pocket:
- We left the back raw inside-jean, but if we planned to wear it away from home, we’d glue a pretty lining to the back. Something from our fabric stash, and maybe even some of the hanky fabric.
- Jazz the front up with sequins, lace or trim.
- Use purchased fringe instead of cutting the jean fabric.
- Glue a top flap over the pocket fronts, with a button closure, perhaps, to keep the phone safe while moving around. The pockets are big and loose enough that certain movements could allow the phone to slide out.
