Extra! Extra! Newspaper Themed Baby Shower!
Welcome baby with a cute black and white party.
Especially perfect for boys with its neutral color scheme.
Do you still get a newspaper delivered to your door?
We haven’t for a long time, so to put on this newspaper theme baby shower I’d have to go out and buy a paper! Or beg one off my brother-in-law, who still loves the smell of newsprint ink. Or maybe he gets it for sentimental reasons, as a real spread-it-out-on-the-table newspaper brings back the good old days, doesn’t it? Then when it’s all jumbled up and the crossword is done, use it for holding potato peelings, wrapping dirty diapers, cleaning camping cast iron, line the bird cage, or a drip mat for rainboots…
But back in the day people depended on the newspaper. There was no other way to hear about the presidential election or the birth of a royal baby. Our local weekly newspaper had reporters in all the little towns, so we even heard about the weddings and babies born in our communities.
Our Newspaper Baby Shower theme celebrates the amazing vintage way of announcing a baby’s birth.
We’ll start with a mood board:
Newspaper Themed Baby Shower Mood Board
Décor Ideas
Starting upper left and going clockwise on the mood board:
- Place a vintage typewriter on an entry table with a page in it that says “Welcome” or has a copy of the invitation in it.
- Wrap flowers, preferably white to go with the color theme, in newspaper, tied with twine. Place several big wrapped bouquets in a vase or box for a centerpiece, and/or lay single bundles on the tables.
- Wrap the napkins and silverware in newsprint banners.
- Roll the party games up, and tie with twine, or wrap with a rubber band. A crossword game would be a great newspaper look.
- Create a newspaper headline baby shower invitation.
- Have signs around where they fit, like “Get the Scoop” or “Extra! Extra” or “Stop the Presses!” or “Front Page News.”
- Use typewriter style letters on party food, such as cupcakes or stuck on skewers on the cake. Or glue onto the top side of drinking straws. Wrap water bottles with newsprint (cover with clear packing tape to save from moisture.) Make menu signs look like a newspaper page. Scatter scrabble tiles on the tables.
- Create a banner with faux typewriter keys.
- Be sure to use the Crinkle Times* for décor or gifting!
