The Lost Coin Bible Story for Children

Jesus told the people of Bible times lots of parables.
The parables were stories that did not really happen, but were made up to help people learn about God’s ways and how to serve Him.
These stories Jesus told help us even today to know how to love God and Jesus better. The meanings behind the stories are the main key, even of more value than the stories themselves.
A Poor Woman Loses A Coin
The Parable of the Lost Coin is a story Jesus told to show the joy of God over a sinner who repents.
The story happens in a simple home where a woman (we call her Susannah) has lost one of her ten silver coins. Despite having nine other coins, she lights a lamp, sweeps the house, and searches all over until she finds it. She will not go to bed and rest before she finds her lost coin.
Upon finding the coin, she calls her friends and neighbors to rejoice with her.
Jesus told this parable in response to the Pharisees and scribes who scolded Him for welcoming and eating with sinners. The parable highlights the value of each person has to God and the great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. Heaven has more joy over this one than over ninety-nine righteous persons who think they do not need to repent. It’s a message of God’s constant and deep love and the need to repent and accept redemption. Jesus used this story to convey that each one of us is precious in the eyes of God, and that there is great joy in the Church when a person turns away from sin and is ‘found’ by God.
