‘Ink Re-cap 314: Random Sketches and Scribbles
‘Ink Re-Cap 314. Random Sketches and Scribbles to catch everyone up on what’s been happening in our little stationery shop: Shortest summer, new products and another stolen mini vacation.
The G’Littles Go Back to School
The writer of a post I read lately believed this summer was the shortest in history. Of course, every day has 24 hours and every hour has 60 minutes, so the length of the summer didn’t change from 2022 to 2023. Or from 2000 to 2023. Or pick any year from the beginning of time and they’ve all been the exact same length. (Well, except for two instances, for Hezekiah and Joshua, when God made the days longer.)
So if your summer flew by, it wasn’t the clock or calendar’s fault. It probably means you are a) no longer a student dreading the beginning of another school year, or, b) you’re a grandparent who didn’t get enough of the g’littles during the short months of vacation.
My g’littles happen to look forward to new school years. Our oldest girl g’little had her backpack parked at the ready at least 3 weeks ahead of time. When someone teased her about it, I told her never to change that habit. Getting ready far ahead of deadlines was much better than being slow and ending up late. I definitely want to promote that trait in her, since I fail so miserably at it.

This summer Kim+INK took on a new product category. We took over a Wedding Planner geared specifically to brides having their weddings in our Church. Simple weddings, with the reception typically happening right in the same church’s Social Hall. The caterers are the congregation’s Food Committee, the hymns and wedding songs are performed by choirs made up of close friends and/or family. And the minister performs the vows for free. Sounds like it wouldn’t be much of a planner, right?
However, there’s actually still a lot to plan. Bridal party and clothes, registry, stationery suite, guest list, menus and more… And our planner tries to make it a beautiful and seamless experience for the couple.
Another brand new thing we were honored to do is print a wedding suite in both English and Spanish. The wedding will take place in the Dominican Republic, with guests from there and from the US.
If you’re interested in either of these products, go to our Bespoke Shop.
Note: There’s a side bar on all blog pages that helps you get to the topic you most want to read about. The main topics are Weddings, Babies, Kitchen, Crafts and Inspirational Stuff.

A Stolen Vacation
Back in this ‘Ink Re-Cap, I talked about a quick “stolen” vacation to Montana.
I just got to steal another mini vacation: 2 friends and I flew to South Carolina for a surprise 60th birthday party. It was amazing. And yes, we managed to surprise her quite sufficiently. I never dreamed it would be worth flying across the US for 2 days, but I certainly am not sorry.
The party was amazing. Her daughter and DIL’s put it on, and everything was simply the best. The venue was a remodeled Southern brick building with beautiful grounds. Lawn, arches, fountains, flowers and shrubs… just a dream setting for a wedding, never mind a birthday. And the luncheon! Ah, I think I’ll have to dedicate a complete blog post to that next week. I will definitely be adding some of those goodies to my personal recipe album.
And Friday, when they took me back to Charlotte to leave from the airport in the evening, we got to spend a couple of hours in the Billy Graham Library. Worthy of still another post. Wait for it to show up soon!
‘Ink Re-Cap 314: Books of the Week:
So my choice for friends of kimenink is this book, gifted to me after our visit to the Billy Graham Library:
Hope For Each Day, Words of Wisdom and Faith
Author: Billy Graham
Use this link to find this beautiful, embossed “leathersoft” covered book with a collection of short passages by Billy Graham.
I was especially excited to get this book since last year I researched his sermons to create a Billy Graham Event Calendar for our shop. His message to the world will never go out of style.
And the kid’s choice is this little board book I found in the gift shop of the birthday party venue:
Puppy Love, Finger Puppet Board Book
Author/Editor: Cottage Door Press
You can operate the finger puppet through every colorful page of this book. Get the interactive book with a cute rhyming story about welcoming a puppy to the family.
