‘Ink Re-cap 313: Random Sketches and Scribbles
about life in a tiny home-grown stationery shop.
This week was about coming home from an unusual vacation,
sad farewells, and getting ready for VBS.
Getting Ready for VBS
Does your Church have VBS? I’ve noticed quite a few signs at churches around town announcing their starting dates.
Even though I don’t teach a class anymore, I still like to get involved with Summer Bible School.
Like making these ladybugs for a friend’s class attendance charts,
and printing invitations. We all get together on the Saturday before the week of VBS and blow up a few vans full of balloons, and attach invitations to them. Then we (well, the younger ones) walk some streets and give them to the kids and/or parents we see outdoors.
And then we have a potluck meal together, of course. Because isn’t every Church occasion an opportunity to eat and fellowship? Every chance we can.
So if you’re in our area, and you have children ages 5 through 12, please join us at VBS next week.

June is wedding season
and bride’s have been ordering our new wedding planner. It’s the planner designed specifically for a wedding in our Church, and all reviews so far look like it will be a best-seller.
We don’t have it listed in the store yet, but you can ask about it here.
Note: There’s a side bar on all blog pages that helps you get to the topic you most want to read about. The main topics are Weddings, Babies, Kitchen, Crafts and Inspirational Stuff.

Inklings of Real Life
A Stolen Vacation.
A month ago my niece’s father in law asked my husband to pick up a truck at the Phoenix Car Auction. He purchased it online for a friend in Idaho, whom we didn’t know. He said someone would come pick it up and drive it to Montana for her.
Well, the weeks passed, and the pickup stayed parked in our backyard. It’s a huge Dodge Ram Laramie, so we didn’t mind looking at it. But we wondered how the buyer was planning to get it to her. Finally, we offered to drive it to Missoula for her. Missoula is just an hour from where she was going to be last weekend, and we can get on an Allegiant flight there, and be home in 2 hours. Nonstop flights are the best.
So she was happy. And we got a stolen mini vacation out of the deal. Instead of taking 2 days to drive to Missoula, we meandered our way across Utah and Idaho. After 4 days of not knowing where we’d be for our next meal, we met her and delivered the truck!
But man, now we miss that truck!
One day we drove that truck onto Antelope Island, the most barren, forsaken piece of land in the Great Salt Lake. We saw 2 buffalo. And a few brave migrating ducks. It has to be the least-visited State Park in all of Utah.
Andy’s trip over the Rainbow Bridge…
This may be the last time we write about Andy, Kim’s dog, that she got from her grandma 5 years ago.
Andy was 9 years and a few months old, but he seemed much older. They say shorkies should live 15 to 18 years but Andy seemed to have so much arthritis and other uncomfortable issues. Kim was always anxious about him, worrying he’d get hurt if she even just picked him up. We thought about this a long time, and decided for Kim’s peace of mind we’d take him to the Humane Society, and see what they thought. If they didn’t want to euthanize him, we’d leave him for re-homing.
They thought Andy was ready, so Kim said good-bye to a good friend and companion. She feels now that she didn’t get to say a “proper good-bye.” Her brother and nieces drove her and Andy to the society, and I imagine everything happened too fast for Kim to process at the last minute. I hope she can relax now and remember his good days.
So you can think about Kim in the next while and say a prayer or two that she won’t feel too lost and lonely, and her mind will remain as calm as it has been the last while. Today was really hard for her, adjusting to this new life without her pet. I’ll go help her take care of all Andy’s things tomorrow so that at least won’t remind her of what’s missing.
