The Latest on Rainbow Acres
I’m still working on the 40 page application form to get Kim into Rainbow Acres. So much detail. The questions go on and on. I told Jen, our contact person, that some of them I answered both yes and no. She said that was fine. Like, “makes own breakfast, lunch and dinner.” What are we talking about here? Whether she can, or whether she actually does? These questions will not really help them to know know Kim, and yes I put 2 knows there on purpose. But they will be a good start, I guess.
And then a change happened. Kim has been feeling ambivalent about actually going away, and maybe even the people are a little intimidating to her. But this week she’s been more upbeat about it, and I haven’t even told her that there may be a possibility that she can go straight into an apartment. That has been her wish, but they’ve told us till now that she has to start in the group homes. So if Jen actually confirms that in the next email, we may be looking at less than a month to move in, rather than 2 months for a group home.
So keep us all in your prayers so we can keep things in perspective and not look at this as a mountain too hard to climb. One step at a time…

Inklings of Real Life
A New Church Sign
No, this isn’t a “signs of the times” paragraph relating to religion. This is a literal report on a new sign for beside the street on our Church yard. A year or so ago our one and only extra tall saguaro cactus fell over, and dissected our sign right in two. The good part is the original wood strips of our temporary sign are still there, so we aren’t totally without a sign. Although it’s made with those mailbox letters you stick on one by one. They’ve weathered the 25 years our building has been at this site, probably because they were sheltered by the metal sign attached around it. Now Mr. kimenink gets to shop for the new sign.
And he likes to do things properly, like a sign that’ll be good for another 25 years for sure. We won’t be planting another saguaro anywhere nearby!
So here’s the question: email us some insights into Church signs. What do you have? What’s the latest and greatest yet economical?
Chuckle…
This one’s a throwback to my niece’s childhood. She always loved to sing. At the top of her lungs. So one Easter (was she 3?) she was belting out, “Low in the gravy lay, Jesus my Savior…”
Nice family memory to embarrass someone you love.
‘Ink Re-Cap 309: Books of the week:
The titles link to Amazon.
Things I’d Only Tell God
by Jennifer Dukes Lee
This is a plain orange book, not especially beautiful, but I think a journal where you’re guided in sharing the things of your heart will be good. I’d like to ask her who picked the cover and why, but it’s none of my business, I guess. There’s so many pretty journals out there, maybe she was going for different.
I’m on this author’s email list, and this week she announced the new book coming soon. She’s asking for pre-orders to boost the numbers for the day it actually ships. If you pre-order from this link and keep your receipt, she will send you a special gift after the launch. This is a common tactic for authors these days, and gets their book out there in an organic way.
Amazon says:
Welcome to your own little confession booth. What would you say if you were completely honest with yourself and with God? It’s time to find out. With daring questions, provocative lists, and quirky charts and illustrations, this journal is a place to record all the stuff you’d only tell God: ideas, beliefs, secrets, memories, wonderings, and wishes–things that might seem outlandish or outrageous to anyone else but are what make you you. You’ll find the space, the courage, and the help you need to unearth the real you, the you that is sometimes buried deep beneath a layer of self-protection. Where to begin? With your beautifully ruthless honesty.
