Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
Coincidence or God-incidence?
Do you call everything coincidence, or do you look at it as God’s presence in your life?
Let me tell you a couple of stories that happened to friends of ours.
My friend depends on her AirBnB for a majority of her income. Yet in July, things looked bleak. She had no bookings for July, or any weeks of the summer.
On her knees one morning she asked God to see what He could do to fill in her little cabin.
Two hours later, several phone calls later, the whole month of July was filled up.
Of course that’s God’s presence.
But then, here comes September, and she got to wondering if she should get on her knees again. No bookings for the whole month.
However, before she got around to praying, the phone rang, and one person booked the whole month.
Was that coincidence?
Or what about the young dad whose diabetes began to affect his eyes, and it was time to renew his driver’s license?
He knew he couldn’t pass the vision test. His left eye was completely blurry, and he couldn’t get in to see his doctor before his license would expire.
He went in for the test.
In the mere seconds he was asked to read “the line” with his left eye, his vision cleared. Immediately after, all went blurry again!
God knew he couldn’t lose his license, and since the doctor could restore this vision setback, He gave the young dad a chance.
A miraculous chance.
Do you believe in coincidence?
Kim’s Vacation Time
Kim left for California on Monday.
City DIL, littlest g’little and I picked her up at the airport yesterday afternoon.
She had a great time.
Shopping, relaxing, renewing friendship.
I hope she’s ready to hit the work table on Monday,
because we got plans, baby. All the yummy fall stuff,
and Christmas right around the corner?
Oh, yes. Fun on a bun.
Smile:
A Jewish businessman in Chicago sent his son to Israel for a year to absorb the culture.
When the son returned, he said, “Papa, I had a great time in Israel. By the way, I converted to Christianity.”
“Oy vey,” said the father, “What have I done!”
He took his problem to his best friend. “Ike,” he said, “I sent my son to Israel, and he came home a Christian. What can I do?”
“Funny you should ask,” said Ike. “I, too, sent my son to Israel, and he also came home a Christian. Perhaps we should go see the Rabbi.”
They explained their problem to the Rabbi. “Funny you should ask,” said the rabbi. “I, too sent my son to Israel, and he also came home a Christian. What is happening to our young people?”
They prayed, telling the Lord about their sons. As they finished their prayer, a voice came from the heavens: “Funny you should ask,” said the voice, “I, too, sent my son to Israel…”

The Best of You:
Break Free from Painful Patterns, Mend Your Past, and Discover Your True Self in God
by Alison Cook, PhD
I’ve barely begun this book, but I already know it has valuable insights and direction for any trauma in anyone’s life. The author describes trauma as hidden pain from the past. It doesn’t have to be major abuse. It is anything that made you hide your true self in order to cope.
Amazon Review:
God didn’t design us to be doormats.
We all want to give the best of ourselves to others. But, what happens when others take advantage and get the best of us? How do you care for family, friends, and co-workers without letting your own needs get pushed to the back-burner?
The Best of You reveals a breakthrough strategy to develop your voice, set wise limits, and still be a loving person. For over 20 years, Dr. Alison has integrated faith and psychology to help women reclaim their confidence, find their purpose, and enjoy healthy relationships. Her unique wisdom will help you answer these tough questions:
- Why don’t I know what I want?
- How do I heal from the pain of my past?
- How do I find my voice?
- What if other people respond with anger, blame, or a guilt trip?
- How do I find people who “get me”?
- How do I negotiate change in my relationships?
You don’t have to stay stuck, overwhelmed, or defeated. The best of you is right around the corner. Discover the life that God intended for you to enjoy.
Kirby Kelvin and the Not Laughing Lesson
by Ivon Cecil
A vintage favorite storybook shared by Becky Smith. Thanks, friend!
The price is high, as all classics are, so you could opt for used. Then when your kids and g’littles fall in love, buy the new. Wince.
Amazon Review:
When Kirby Kelvin gets the giggles during a spelling test, severe Ms. Frost marches him down the hall to Mr. Gloomsmith’s office for not-laughing lessons.
