about sneak peeks, roadkill, and a mad fabric search.
A Mad Fabric Search
So we’re still talking wedding here. And the lack of something to wear. Like a dress to suit the occasion, when nothing appeals? And since I sew all my dresses, the real concern here is finding fabric. I began the search a couple of weeks ago when shopping in JoAnn’s. Then I began looking on websites, and asking favors of my niece who has a fabric shop. She took loads of pictures of what she has, and nothing had my name on it. My sister went the extra mile and trekked to their local (Canadian) fabric shop for me. This is in the snow and cold and country miles away from her house, so the extra mile means a lot.
Nada. Maybe something Canadian…
Then yesterday morning I dropped a hint as my man was leaving for work that I just may want to drive across town. He’s been teasing me about hiking Camelback Mountain, so I saw the glint of humor in his blue eyes when he almost asked me if that’s what I had in mind. He knows better. Anyway, so after his day of hard labor, we packed up and drove through rush hour traffic to 19th Ave to scrounge the Rat’s Nest. Formally known as SAS Fabrics. I may have mentioned that it’s a warehouse with metal racks loaded with everything all the other fabric stores don’t want anymore? Yes, that kind of store. But they do have all types of fabric from pajama flannel to high end satin.
In about an hour I picked out 4 possibles, with one of them being a go, unless the Canadian fabric my sis brings is better. All 4 pieces together cost what the one piece she’ll bring will cost!
Why do I have to be so picky?
Because I have to be truly inspired about a piece to actually get it to the sewing machine. And these days there’s not much that I get excited about when it comes to my own wardrobe. How can I spice it up??

New Exciting Designs
Our theme for our new spring designs is “Secret Garden.” We’ve got some of the baby items in the shop already, but when we’ve got the whole line ready, we’ll show it all here. We plan to start selling this line February 15, and go into the summer with it. Because who doesn’t want a secret garden?
Think Monet paintings with their wonderful florals and greenery. Water and swans. Baby fairies. On baby stationery, shower planners and First Year calendars. Wedding invitations, shower planners and invitations. The garden is taking over!
Here’s a little peek:
Sorry, not sorry.
Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
The World Outside Our Work Window
This week our Country son made a great find. He saw a little dresser all forlorn, discarded and lonely in the hedgerow at a client’s place. Checking it out a little closer, he discovered a mostly intact but worn to raw wood piece of furniture, the perfect size for a new little girl’s changing table. He spoke with the client and they gave him their blessing to take it and see if he could salvage it.
Country DIL got out the Annie Sloan chalk-paint we bought for their 1919 front door, before there was any thought of Country Baby, and spiffed up the little dresser. Now she’s wearing a coat of robin’s egg blue, with touches of white on all the best places. All ready for Baby to make her appearance around Valentine’s Day.
We are ridiculously excited.
You’d think this was our first rodeo. It’s not. They’ve all been exciting.
But dare I say this, and I whisper it quiet, it might be out last. (:
Smirk:
My friends took me to the rodeo last week.
I kind of got roped into it.
Books of the week:
“Predictably Irrational“*
by
I listened to this book this week, on and off all week. It’s got amazing research into why we do the things we do. I want to listen to it again before I send it back to the library. It gets a little long-winded at times, and so my mind would wander. But it’s fun research, so I’ll make my irrational brain act unpredictably and give it another listen. It’s much more interesting than Amazon makes it sound.
Amazon:
“Behavioral economist and New York Times bestselling author Dan Ariely offers a much-needed take on the irrational decisions that led to our current economic crisis.”
Our children’s book pick…
“A Year in the Secret Garden“*

If someone had written a book like this for Mary Lennox she might not have been so lonely. But then, if she hadn’t been lonely, we wouldn’t have the original book. At least, lonely in F. H. Burnett’s imagination. This is on the list for my littles…
Amazon:

Over 120 pages, with 150 original color illustrations and 48 activities for your family and friends to enjoy, learn, discover and play with together.
