Random Sketches and Scribbles
about leaky roofs, soul-less scammers and Humankind.
So I was going to sleep in today, but someone in the family had other plans…
Mr. K has ducks and rain and roofs on his mind, and he doesn’t want to be the shoe-maker whose kids run around barefoot, to mix some metaphors.
We actually did get rain on Friday. I missed it, because, sigh, I was taking a nap for those 15 minutes. The rain was 15 minutes. My nap was longer. It was dry already when I began to stir. But that speaks of Arizona air, not the length of my naps. Maybe.
So anyway, we are the ducks with a leaky roof, and my dear husband spoke the law at this house and said we were not getting an extension to our patio until our roof was fixed. So he is slaving away like an immigrant while I’m trying to extend my repose because it’s Saturday. I wonder if the banging over my head had a purpose?? He did warn me he might need help with unrolling something. Something he had to get from Home Depot, and I just heard a truck.
I think I’d better get this done before he whistles…
If anyone knows the secret to escape helping my husband, please share. Shall I start a yeast dough?

How to Write A Letter to Your Future Daughter-in-Law. Our post for a Letter to Your Future Son-In-Law is very popular, so we thought we’d add one for a daughter-in-law.
Scandinavian Christmas Star Nursery Wall-Hanging DIY. Because the littles need Christmas around them, too. And it makes a great seasonal nightlight for the midnight rocking sessions.
How to Make Minimalist Christmas Gift Tags and Place Cards. Getting ready for our Family Christmas. Now I just need to finish buying the gifts so I have something to put gift tags on!
Humankind Lets You Be A Fabulous Flunky. Have you read the book mentioned below? That’s where you’ll read about Fabulous Flunkies. I wish we could have one of them, but they come from Ohio. And cost $2500. But the story in the book inspired my thoughts on breaking out of the mindset of flunking out, and becoming who God wants you to be in your own little spot. Because flunky dogs fill a need in other homes that don’t need a service dog. We don’t have to pass the service dog school. Just pass the humankind test.

Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
The World Outside Our Work Window
We had a bit of a stir in our home this week.
Someone got a message in their WhatsApp and didn’t catch on that it was a scam.
Who knew? That’s a first with that kind of scam in our area of experience, so even if she had shared what was happening we might not have caught on at first.
Moral of the story: Don’t answer a message if you don’t recognize the sender.
And don’t feel bad if you get taken in. It happens to all of us at least once. Or twice.
And life goes on…
There’s always a new scam for another day, so learn to laugh at the ones that don’t force you to change your bank account or zip code. Or go live at a shelter because you accidentally gave your house away. No, I’ve never heard of that, but someone will come up with a way.
Yes, I’m bitter. But now I’m going to put it out of my head and concentrate on good people who have higher goals.
Smirk:
I’d tell you the joke about the leaky roof,
but it’s over your head.
Books of the Week:
“Humankind”*
by
This isn’t a Christmas book, but it puts the Christmas Spirit into action all year long. I’m so thankful to have family and friends in our life who live this book. I am putting it on my New Year’s Suggestions List.
Amazon:
“Brad Aronson’s life changed in an instant when his wife, Mia, was diagnosed with leukemia. After her diagnosis, Brad spent most of the next two and a half years either by her side as she received treatment or trying to shield their five-year-old son, Jack, from the worst of Mia’s illness. Amid the stress and despair of waiting for the treatment to work, Brad and Mia were met by an outpouring of kindness from friends, family and even complete strangers.
“Inspired by the many demonstrations of “humankindness” that supported their family through Mia’s recovery, Brad began writing about the people who rescued his family from that dark time, often with the smallest of gestures. But he didn’t stop there. Knowing that simple acts of kindness transform lives across the globe every day, he sought out these stories and shares some of the best ones here.
“HumanKind will leave you grateful for what you have and provide a refuge from the negativity that surrounds us. This feel-good book will touch your heart. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll be reminded of what really matters.”
Our children’s book pick,
“Fix-It Duck”*
by Jex Alborough, 2001
Because it fits our theme of the day…
Amazon:
“Duck decides that not only can he fix his own leaking roof, but that Sheep with his broken window would also benefit from his DIY expertise…What caused Duck’s leaking roof? Could it be that he forgot to turn his bath tap off?!?“
