Random Sketches and Scribbles
about feeling “Lost in the City,”
rediscovering morning, and a Christmas card sale.
.
A week ago I re-discovered morning, outdoors.
Our Church family had a breakfast picnic, with awesome food, cool-ish weather and clear skies.
When we took off from our yard and headed for White Tank Mountains at the unseemly hour of 7:15 AM,
the mountains looked 3 miles away instead of 12. The air felt fresh and clean.
So, yes, I had forgotten what morning outdoors looks like in the fall.
I think 7:00 AM, the road and I should have a weekly date at this time of year!
‘Ink Re-Cap 152: Our Week on the Blog
Our Free Wedding Menu Planner Printable is super helpful when deciding how much food you’ll need to prepare for a crowd. We’re working on a more in-depth planner, with all the answers to questions you didn’t think of asking. So we’ll let you know when that’s available.
This was our week for printables. The Babies got this free Adventure Forest Nursery Printable: Climb Mountains Little One. Because we believe even babies need positive affirmations. Even though you’ll have to read it to them.
We’ve been seeing dresses with this Striped Fabric Pattern Variation. We thought some of you might want a tutorial to help redesign your own pattern into this style.
More free printables, to update your shelf-sitters for Fall: Free Thanksgiving DIY Décor that is so easy you can get them done in under an hour. If you recycle your wood from earlier seasons, like we did.
We have Bible Study on Sunday evening, so I needed to get a lesson ready for the littles. I’m not the teacher, but we don’t have a regular curriculum, so the teachers appreciate if I get a lesson ready for them. This time it’s The Great Exodus Lesson 2: God Calls A Leader. Available from the post for free download.
Huge Sigh of Relief
This Thursday Kim had her evaluation appointment with SSI, to see if she will qualify for financial help from the good old US of A. We’ve had this on our calendar for months. Sometimes Kim was super anxious about it all. Then this last week she seemed to relax about it. She told us on the drive downtown that she had decided what would happen would happen, and, get this folks… it’s soooo amazing…
She said, “If I get a no, then I know God knew someone else who needed a yes more than I did.”
We asked for prayers on FB, on our Church Lady chat and family chats. Heaven was busy handling the prayers, and totally came through in such a gratifying way. The almost-one-hour drive had only a few bad moments when Kim almost lost it to paranoia. So, so thankful.
She hasn’t been able to totally leave it alone, and asks me about twice a day if she should email this info, or another thing she thinks might help. When I explain once again that our NOAH lawyer is working for us, and if they want that info they’ll ask for it.
Because all we can do now is wait, wait, wait, for the answer.
And then try again if we failed.
‘Ink Re-Cap 152 Post of the Week:
This week this is the post that gets a shout-out.
It was written in fall of 2020, and was one of Kim’s first attempts at watercolor painting.
Didn’t she do an awesome job? We used shimmer paints, and the pictures turned out with so much class. She made them for her Fall scrapbook pages.
Note: There’s a side bar on all blog pages that helps you get to the topic you most want to read about. The main topics are Brides, Babies, Kitchen, Crafts and Inspirational Stuff.

Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
Did you see the moon this week?
The clear skies made this month’s “Hunter’s Moon” especially stunning for us.
I do believe on the brightest night you could have gone out hunting. Although I wouldn’t recommend shooting at any bird or animal, even during the day when you can be sure what you’re shooting at. I’m such a Debbie Downer when it comes to hunting that my boys only had about 3 good years of fun being hunters. I didn’t nag them, but they found out for themselves that for them, shooting animals is not what it’s cracked up to be. (Is there a pun in there?)
An 11 year old boy in a neighborhood near us got a deer, and he and his dad were getting the skull ready to hang in their house. (Not ever in my house, thank you!) He ran inside for a few minutes, and when he came back, that skull was gone. The mom was asking us all to look out for it. Maybe the coyote that snitched it would drop it, and he could get it back. Well, I’m glad she was looking out for her son, but is it mean to wish that deer was still running around on the Rim?
Book of the week: “The Dressmakers of Auschwitz: The True Story of the Women Who Sewed to Survive“*
by
Another Holocaust story, but not a story you’ve likely read about before.
The story about the group of women who sewed haute couture garments for Nazi wives hasn’t been widely published before. The women thought if they were part of this elite group they could escape the gas chambers. It didn’t always work that way.
The author drew her facts from many sources, including interviews with some of the surviving seamstresses. The book is a new look at a little known facet of World War 2 and Nazism.
I haven’t read a Holocaust book for a long time. Practically since the years we read them almost exclusively, until we felt too immersed. Now, I think I’m ready for another one. Especially if it’s a new aspect.
Just because we love the big red dog and Emily Elizabeth:
“Clifford Collection“* by Norman Bridwell. 1963
We’ve been having a bit of a Clifford revival at our house (my husband and I) and we want to share the stories with our g’littles. They haven’t read them before! So with 2 birthdays this month, one girl will surely get this book:
Amazon’s description:
“Celebrate Clifford’s 50th anniversary with this collection of classic stories! The eye-catching cover design will have red foil and matte and spot gloss.
Celebrate Clifford’s 50th anniversary with this collection of six classic stories that were originally published beginning in 1963! This book includes: Clifford the Big Red Dog, Clifford at the Circus, Clifford Gets a Job, Clifford Takes a Trip, Clifford’s Good Deeds, and Clifford’s Tricks. Also included in the book is an original letter from Norman Bridwell to the reader, information about the creation of Clifford–including an image of Norman’s 1962 painting that inspired the Clifford series, the story behind the real Emily Elizabeth, and more!”
Miscellaneous
Smirk:
Why are computers so smart?
They always listen to their motherboard.
Random Factoid:
We live in the Sonoran Desert. It’s the wettest desert on this continent. With an annual rainfall of less than 7″!
It’s also the largest desert, covering 100,000 acres in 2 states and 2 countries.
