‘Ink Re-Cap 149: Random Sketches

Random Sketches and Scribbles
about everyday miracles,
second shots and defiant joy.
No, I am NOT going to say, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
Because it’s not true. Yes, it’s October on the calendar, but it’s not Anne-with-an-E October. We have no colored leaves, have crispy mornings that dissipate by 9:00 AM, and occasional cloudy skies with no rain. In fact, last night it looked like we’d get a monsoon storm. Monsoon!! In October!! We were driving down Litchfield Road, through the palm tree corridor by Fantasy Island (those who’ve lived here know where I mean) and our car kept getting hit by falling limbs. The wind was blowing all the dry stuff out of the palms. Scary.
But, yes, I’m thankful we could turn over a new calendar page, because that brings us a page closer to cool weather.
And, the best part, nice evenings to eat on patios.
Yay for Fall! And the fall smell in the air…
‘Ink Re-Cap 149: Our Week
I love the convenience of Individual Desserts at Weddings, and not only because of the germ thing. They look good, and you don’t need as much help for serving.
This Tuesday we shared more about Kim’s Baby Days.
And twine pumpkins? Farmhouse, rustic gorgeousness. Check out How to Make Scented Twine Mini Pumpkins.
And then we had fun doing Pulled String Art. It’s so easy, perfect for Art Class in middle school.
There’s a few stories in the Bible that leave so much unsaid, and Jael, the Accidental Warrior is one of them. Was her heart in the right place? Was she after revenge? What do you think?
Covid Shot Number 2.
I think I shared how the first Covid shot affected Kim.
We ran into the office so she could get her final jab on Tuesday, and the next two days were fairly fine. Except yesterday she came into the house in the morning looking pale and weak. I asked if she’d had breakfast, and she had. But I encouraged her to sit and rest till she felt (and looked) stronger. She fell asleep.
But she assured me it wasn’t from the shot. What could it have been, though? She’s never sick unless she gets too hungry, and she said it wasn’t that. But at least the meltdowns haven’t appeared. I pray they won’t this time. I prefer her feeling physically ill, rather than the mental confusion and anxiety. I didn’t ask her what she prefers, but I think she’d agree.
Today her brother is going with her to a new place where she might be able to volunteer. That will be a nice change for her. In some ways. Not in other ways. Change is always hard for the first while.
Also, please pray especially hard for her this next week, as she has an evaluation appointment with the people who decide if she gets disability benefits. I’m praying they’ll say yes this time. It’s been so hard on her to wait all this time.
‘Ink Re-Cap 149 Search Engine Winner:
I’m about to give up on this section, because Google’s algorithm seems to have a grip on a couple of posts it automatically shows everyone.
This week the Coffee Themed Bridal Shower post seemed to do best.
Note: There’s a side bar on all blog pages that helps you get to the topic you most want to read about. The main topics are Weddings, Babies, Kitchen, Crafts and Inspirational Stuff.

Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
Random Miracles.
My friend shared a little miracle going on in her life right now.
She’s using eye drops consistently, and somehow, the bottle never runs out of drops.
She even wondered if she’d forgotten a trip to the pharmacy to refill them, and called to ask when she’d last filled her prescription. It was as she’d thought. She hadn’t refilled it at all since the doctor prescribed them.
She puts her eyedrops in every time her eyes feel dry, yet the bottle always has enough for another time.
How’s that for a touch from God in everyday life?
Book of this week: “Laugh It Up”*
by
Candace Payne has a voice in this world strictly because of social media. Five years ago she posted a video of herself wearing a toy mask and laughing infectiously for 4 minutes. If you Google “Chewbacca Mom” you’re sure to find a news spot with the video. Go ahead, you can’t help but laugh with her.
So she took her 15 minutes of fame and extended it into a way to promote joy: joy in the Lord, joy in every moment. This book tells her story, which was so not filled with moments of joy until she made a conscious effort to create joy.
This link is for the e-book version. I listened to the audio version, which she reads, and it is very easy listening. I laughed and I cried and did both at the same time at places.
Share a fun story with your children you can all laugh at together:
“The Chicken Squad, The First Misadventure”* by Doreen Cronin. 2015
Squirrel comes barreling into the chicken coop, trembling with fear. The chickens have to figure out what it is he’s afraid of, but he can’t describe it. He says it’s “Big and scary” and “Enormous and terrifying” and “Huge and frightening.” Then something arrives at the door…

Smirk:
“Someone said I should do lunges to stay in shape.
That would be a big step forward.”

Random Factoid:
Did you know that butterfly wings make a noise?
At least if you get enough of them all in the same place. Which is down in Mexico, up in the mountains, where all the millions of butterflies go for winter. There’s a little sound clip here to listen to them, and it’s amazing.
