‘Ink Re-Cap 144: Sketches of the Stationer Life
‘Ink Re-Cap 144.
Sketches of the Stationer Life.
Pushing for fall, a g’littles birthday
and an unexpected Amazon gift.
My friend asked if we’d felt the difference in the air lately,
that inkling of fall coming. A slight loosening of the tight clutch of the monsoon season.
We all agreed the mornings were fresher, and the humidity was slightly lessening.
Sigh. Except this week, well, not so much again. The monsoon is determined to keep us guessing for awhile.
‘Ink Re-Cap 144 Sketches and Scribbles
Yum! I love all the fall things.
And a fall wedding could be a beautiful opportunity to use all the warm, bright colors in your flowers.
And if you decide to save money and do your own flowers, we’ve got some hints for you right here.
These glass bowl pumpkin lanterns add a touch of elegance to any setting, even among your wedding décor.
You might find just the right bowls for the lantern DIY when you fall clean your kitchen.
The week also included a new chapter of Kim’s Story, and a heartwarming story of a mother-heart in action.
A G’Littles 4th Birthday
The absolute best birthday of a little girl’s life. She doesn’t realize those statistics, and will believe for years yet that every birthday is the best ever. Like maybe till her 30th, give or take a few.
But looking on, this grandma’s scientific observation says turning four is best. Before hard things stick in the psyche. Well, little hard things, anyway. Major trauma would, of course.
The birthday I remember the best is turning five. I experienced pure excitement looking forward to that day. I’m not sure why I was so excited, but my family still reminds me of my self-celebratory mood of that birthday. Did I actually know how to read the calendar, or how did I even know my birthday was coming? Our family of 10 children wasn’t big on celebrating all the birthdays. In January we had 5 (4 now that Dad is gone).
How can I help my littlest g’little remember this momentous time? She’ll never ever be this purely carefree spirit again. And that makes me sad. Although I know she’ll have good birthdays again. But after this year, the memory will hold onto cares along with the freeness. She’ll learn about good and evil and she’ll be changed forever.
That’s really contemplative. I want to hold onto the simple, uncomplicated joy she radiates in life.
Happy, happy birthday, Littlest G’little!

Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
Amazon’s Amazing Blip
How often does it happen that Amazon sends you something you didn’t order?
Or doesn’t send you something you did? Do you wonder who got it instead?
Did you know that legally you don’t have to return something you receive in the mail if you didn’t order it?
I don’t know what this nice large package from Amazon holds, that was supposed to go to Albuquerque, but had two labels on it. Eene, meeny, miny, mo. He gave it to us. I’m still deciding what to do. And someone is Alb is shaking their head at Amazon. Or maybe more.
What would you do?
Recommended Inspiring Book: “Educated“*
by
It’s a memoir about a home schooled girl from a survivalist family who goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University.
“Better than you even heard,” was Bill Gates’ comment. My comment is “More impactful than you even heard.” Kind of left me with my mouth open. How did all that happen to one person and not break her totally?
I have to include it a second week, because it has to be read twice.
An equivalent for children that’s sort of a memoir:
“No, David“* by David Shannon.
When David Shannon was five years old he wrote and illustrated his first book. Every page has the words, “No, David,” and shows a boy doing something he shouldn’t. Fifteen years after its original publication the book is still popular with children, adults and teachers.
Something happened in our neighborhood this week that turns this book into second-week worthy, also. A boy who didn’t learn the word no turned against his family and showed them his gun. Too much fear.
Read this book over and over. Teach your littles what “No” means. With love and feeling.
Miscellaneous
Start getting out your fall stuff, just so you get the feeling. Summer’s so over for me. (It’s a desert thing.)
I really love my fairy light pumpkin made with a bowl vase. My husband shakes his head and does all the practical things.
Some husbands make awesome pantry organizers for their wives, even if the wife shakes her head. Then is amazed.
If you’ve never had a Secret Sister Reveal Brunch, invent one, because you have to have these piggies. You will not stop eating them, I promise you.
Inspiring Quote
No fridge quote this week.
In fact, I want this page to taunt you from your fridge all week, just as it has me.
In one way, it’s made me attack the kitchen with soap and cloth, but in another, I’m resentful whenever I look at it. It makes me feel so frustrated because I can’t do what I want and still get my house clean.
I hope you have better success with it.
