Random Kimenink Sketches and Inspiring Inklings for the Weekend.
The Reunion Rolls on.
Remember when I talked about my siblings coming to our Valley?
Well, it actually happened, and as the reunion rolled on, the blog came to a halt. Oh, we still fulfilled the orders we got and answered messages and emails (mostly. I hope we didn’t miss too many). But no blog posts happened, until yesterday.
And that post was because I was prepping for more company, and I wanted to print a WIFI sign and QR code for our new guests coming next week. I realized that post needed updating, so I gave it a quick going over, and republished it. (Most of our posts these days are updated and republished. It’s amazing how much things change in 4 years, since we began writing posts.)
I hope you don’t think we’re running out on you all, the people who support us, with your welcome comments and behind the scenes blessings. We depend on you to be our cheerleaders. I’ve mentioned in posts on autism how much Kim needs constant affirmations. This website states it well: “…autistic people struggle with… things such as sensory/emotional overload… they know that even the most basic of situations can have unseen problems for them —- therefore it is not uncommon for autistic people to lack confidence in seemingly simple situations, and interactions.” (Even being with her beloved uncles and aunts causes overload, and the resulting lack of self-confidence results in a setback of emotions.)
Does this sound like I’m begging for attention? I guess I am. For Kim. Because it makes her life so much happier. Just a little compliment can make a big difference. And prayer. Lots of prayer. We all know how prayer makes the amazing happen. Thank you for your prayers.
Do you have anything you’d like us to pray for you?

Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
The World Outside Our Work Window
We attended my brother-in-law’s wedding last weekend. It was a beautiful, beautiful wedding. Quiet, happy, inspiring. Those are adjectives that come to mind about the service.
There was one thing the bride forgot to double check. The wedding cake. So, guess what. On Saturday afternoon, one of her close friends said she would go shopping, buy the supplies and make a wedding cake. I heard about that, and felt an inner nudge. Which I didn’t really want to listen to, because I wanted to be on vacation.
But I followed the nudge and called the friend to ask if she wanted to help. She practically wept with relief. I told her not to be so happy, because I hadn’t done a fancy cake for a long time. It wasn’t until the cake was baked, crumb coated and stacked, that I got worried. It’s late Saturday evening by now. We are in Louisiana, not the Arizona desert. The crumb coat isn’t drying, so we can’t do the final coat. We are exhausted from all the cake work and wedding activities. We decide to go to bed and finish in the morning before the wedding.
I sleep like a log all night long. She wakes up at 3 am and squeezes a layer of rosettes on the sides of the 3 layer cake. Leaving the top for the fresh flowers the bride and groom requested.
I arrive in the morning and see the cake almost done and my mood lifts because she’s done 99% of the hard work. I was dreading frosting the crumby, wet cake. She dreaded applying the flowers. I took a deep breath, because I tend not to breathe while working on an intense project. I grabbed the scissors and began cutting roses and babies breath for the top of the cake. A few minutes later I took another deep breath, and relaxed. The thing was done. We accomplished the impossible.
That, my friends, was my weekend challenge.
Everything else about our quick trip to a wedding was awesome…

Book of the week:
Our children’s non-book pick…
“Dillon Helbig’s Crismis”
by Dillon Helbig, age 8, 2021
The story about how this book happened may just be more interesting than the book itself. Which is why I had to include it here, even though there is only one book published so far. With a long list of people waiting to loan it from the library the 8 year old author stashed it in. Read the story here.
