‘Ink Re-Cap 112: Wrapping Up the Week
‘Ink Re-Cap 112; wrapping up the week on the blog plus words and wisdom for your weekend.
I love a lazy Saturday morning. No alarm nudging you out of bed, no rushing to get ready for work, coffee dripping comfortingly into the carafe, and, if it was 30 years ago, a fat newspaper to unfold from the center to find the best stories. Not the jarring headlines. They can wait for Monday morning. We want the feel-good stories, the articles about heroes and fun side trips to take and Ann Landers and the cryptogram and weekend crossword.
So let’s pretend this is that newspaper, and we’re bringing you the best feel-good stories for your weekend…
Got your coffee?
Capping the pen; wrapping up a blog week
Seriously?
I don’t like wrapping up a week on the blog.
We love what we do so much that we could do it 24-7.
Well, those times when the postal service surprises a customer with an $18 charge before handing over their package from kimenink, those times aren’t so great. Because that means we messed up and used the wrong packaging and they want their pound of red and burning flesh. But when that same customer leaves you a five star review, after the surprise from said postal service, well, that feels like angels dropping feathers from lovely wings.
And creating a Newborn Layette List for new parents bringing baby home for the first time, so they can tick off the items and be assured they’re not forgetting anything important,
and adding another lesson to our Learn Bespoke Pattern Course,
then sharing our ponderings while shopping at Bath and Body Works, about keyholders and kingdoms,
that’s all like more feathers dropping from angel wings.
We also got some more Christmas listed in our stationery shop and our Etsy store.
‘Ink Re-Cap: feel-good stories and fun ideas
This was voting week, and we think we got a new president for our country. We’re not sure, though, because when we re-capped our work week, the issue wasn’t clear.
But we leave that sort of news for Monday morning.
So meanwhile, let’s go to London and visit the queen.
The Queen’s corgis.
Queen Elizabeth II received a corgi for her 18th birthday, and named her Susan. Susan went with her and Philip on their honeymoon two years later.
And today, one or two of Susan’s 8th generation of descendants are still living in the palace.
Sadly, no new Susan-puppies will happen ever again. The queen doesn’t want to leave this world before her corgis, because they would miss her. Actually, more likely, she can’t tend to them safely anymore.
Monday School Devotions
Mr. Kimenink and I visited the school our granddaughters attend, and toured their classroom.
Then we spent the first half hour of their school week with them in assembly.
Mr. K read a story we adapted from this book.
The students listened attentively as he told of a baby found in a fur coat. A fur coat stolen from a Jewish woman destined for Auschwitz. The girl grew up believing she was Polish, then an old woman told her the real story. As an adult, and a doctor, she discovered she was Jewish.
She visited Israel, then moved there because they needed pediatricians.
In a miraculous twist worthy of a novel, a tragic bombing brought her together with her real grandfather!
The story shows how God can take tragedy and create something beautiful.
And this story is about a “fluke” that saved a train conductor.
(Did you know a whale’s tail is called a fluke? We didn’t either.)
NICU
is every new parents’ nightmare, and one our very own Arizona hospital’s decided these parents needed a literal wall of hope devoted to stories of babies from their ward who went on to survive and thrive. Now, as the parents arrive to visit their baby, they walk past all the hope.
We love words,
stories and books. We don’t want any books to go away. So that means we have to save the book stores.
This book store in New York City could keep it’s doors open because people who love books thronged the store buying books so they wouldn’t have to shut down.
Long live book stores!!
