‘Ink Re-Cap 108 and Inspiring Stories From Around the ‘Net
This week’s ‘Ink Re-cap 108
Happenings in our shop(s) and on the blog.
And inspiring stories for your weekend from around the ‘net.
Join us for this week’s ‘ink re-cap. Week 108.
We just put the lid on 107, didn’t we?
Where did this week go?
In the print shop we did wedding books, programs, table numbers.
Designed a personalized keepsake calendar for my friend’s new grandbaby. And, yes, we love it so much we’ll be putting it in our shop as a new baby design suite. Sneak peak? It’s woodland baby animals in a semi-realistic setting. Not as boho cutesy as our Little Dreamer suite.
Not very many printshops have a sewing shop on the side. But you knew we were different, didn’t you???
We sent a wedding dress home with a bride this week. She loved it and the dress loved her. So happy. She will be a beautiful bride.
So that was some the physical work we sent out of our shop this week.
Now a re-cap of our week on ‘Ink…
If you’re planning a bridal shower this fall, check out the inspiration board we put together in this post.
Autumn seems like the easiest season for incorporating natural elements, yet with the elegance you expect for a bridal shower. That means no orange pumpkins. White or light orange, big yes. Twigs and silk fall leaves with a little shimmer sprayed on. Yes. And invitations and games with a twig/leaf design. Check it out.
We put some nursery swag out there in our favorite-for-fall color: navy. 9 super cute nurseries help you get your design juices going in case you’re thinking dark blue for your baby room. Read this post and feast your eyes.
The cool mornings have us reaching for wraps and hot drinks and wraps for our hot drinks. Do you have a mug wrap? Mug sweater? Mug Pendleton blanket? No? Well, all the best dressed mugs do.
So read this post and follow our extra simple no-sew directions for a wrap for your favorite mug. Because who wants to drink cold coffee on cool fall mornings?
My calendar is booked for October, as full as I can get it, with pattern fittings. “You mean I have to wait till the end of October for a fitting?” “Sorry, actually, it’s November now.”
With so many requests for bespoke patterns, we decided to begin a new once-a-month series on becoming your own pattern designer. There’s a lot of how-to courses out there, but there are none that make it simple enough for non-sewers to believe in themselves. That’s our goal with this slow step-by-step journey to designing your bespoke pattern.
Shopping at Dollar Tree can be stressful. It’s usually a busy, crowded place and most of the people are, shall we say, not in the best frame of mind. How is shopping for bargains because you have to ever fun? So mama is concentrating on her list, and the kids are fighting over something. And then, God speaks. In the most unlikely place. We couldn’t help sharing this Dollar Tree epiphany with you.
Re-caps to take with you for the weekend…
Reader’s Digest has a “Good News Stories from around the world” article here about an app called “Too Good to Go.” Supermarkets, restaurants and cafes post surplus food they have at the end of the day, selling it at 1/3 of the original price. Too bad the app is only available in Europe.
We always love a love story, except the one about Romeo and Juliet. Now it seems a couple from the city where the fatal balcony tragedy happened… have a new balcony story to tell. During the pandemic, the girl and her sister played their violins on their apartment balcony to cheer up their fellow dwellers in lockdown. A man on a nearby balcony fell in love with her face and her music, but they couldn’t meet in person for many weeks. Now… well, read this story!
The pandemic changed the sea around a port in Hong Kong. When ferries had to stop because of lockdown, marine life scientists hadn’t seen near land for a long time began to show up. Can you believe… pink dolphins? Read the story here.
The fires in California and Oregon. Not good news, is it? But, there’s always inspiring events that come out of disaster. I guess to keep our hope in mankind alive, even though nature seems against us. A group of firefighters came to help all the way from “a dot on the equator.” An island called American Samoa. They went viral as the “singing Samoans.” They sing “What a Friend we have in Jesus” on their trek out of the forest after fighting fires all day. They sing Samoan traditional chants on the parking lot before going in to work. The sing on the bus. Amazing. Read the story here.
And one more. About one of our special interests. Autism. A nonverbal autistic boy was found “scared and confused” on a city street. A bicycle police officer was summoned. He found a way to communicate with the boy and get him back together with his family. Read the inspiring story here.
