How To Customize Linen Baby Outfits With Hand Embroidery
Want to know how to customize Linen Baby Outfits with a little hand embroidery? Here’s a quick and easy tutorial to take an outfit from everyday to runway.
I found the most amazing handmade clothing shop the other day.
With the prices to match.
Some of us either (a.) want to do it ourselves, or (b.) can’t afford to hire a pro. Even though you may wish you had in the end.
But I think with a few practice sessions and a basic linen baby romper
you too can take an outfit from everyday humdrum to runway ready.
Or maybe you’re a grandma, like me, or doting aunty, and want to make something special for your No. 1 little.
Then here’s what you need to do to
How to Customize Linen Baby Outfits
Supplies:
- Basic linen baby outfit.
- Embroidery hoop, needles, scissors. This could be a good starter set.
- Embroidery floss (thread). This set includes all the latest popular colors.
- Optional: water soluble fabric stabilizer.
See side bar for affiliate information.
Directions:
- Place scrap linen for embroidery practice, and when you’re ready, the baby outfit, smoothly in a small hoop.
- Pick the thread colors you want to use, and thread needles with 3 strand lengths.
- Follow this tutorial for making the flowers.
- Draw the flower design on water soluble fabric stabilizer if the fabric is super lightweight. Then create the design through both the stabilizer and fabric layers. Follow your package directions to dissolve the stabilizer.
- If necessary for stability, you can iron a small piece of lightweight iron-on fabric interfacing on the inside of the outfit beneath the design. This is handy if knots bother baby’s soft skin, or to help keep the thread ends from unraveling.
