Handmade Love, A Language That Never Fails
The girl in Church shyly asked, “Can you give this to Kim?”
It was a page composed of pure handmade love,
the universal language that never fails.
Today let’s talk about handmade love.
Specifically, a sweet, reaching-out kind of love using the talents of our hands.
The agape sort of caring love; a universal language that spans generations and age groups. And neurological differences: different but not less.
Handmade Love Language
Yesterday a young girl came up to me in church, holding a paper.
Shyly, she said, “Can you give this to Kim.” My daughter is several years older than this sweet child, however she had Kim in her thoughts.
The girl felt intrinsically that Kim needed her special brand of handmade love, so she made her a gift from her heart.
This young girl couldn’t have know the details of Kim’s life with autism: as someone who can’t do crowds because of anxiety. As someone who is afraid to go to Church services because she feels she can never measure up to what she hears across the pulpit, causing another type of anxiety.
So I felt like hugging this sweet little girl. I wanted to wrap her in a bear hug and drip grateful tears all over her.
She is the first. person. ever. to do this for my daughter since Kim was in grade school.
Beautifully Hand Made With Special Sentiment
What can I say?
When I gave the lovely scrapbook page to my daughter that afternoon, she was quiet. She looked at it and read it silently.
Then, the rest of the day, she was unusually calm.
Calmer than she’s been for a long time. Calm in a way that is our prayer for her every single day.
Bless this child/young woman from church. She has no idea what she did.
But now you have an idea, friends, of the tremendous value a piece of paper with a few loving words written on it can have.
I’m going to preach it.
Paper Love is in their hands today, and in their hearts forever.
Reach out with Handmade Paper Love.
It doesn’t have to cost a lot or look as if a professional artist made it.
Simply create the message you feel in your heart, and its work will be accomplished. Because God is the original creator of all good, after all. And when you follow the prompting He puts in you, your creation is an extension of Him. Your hand made art is the completion of His design; the expression of the talent He gave you.
Therefore, the excuse that we don’t have talent won’t fly. Because God gave everyone talents, and it’s our job to multiply them.
Which this girl acted upon when she created the prompt God gave her, instead of burying it in the ground to preserve her talent until it was perfect.
