Charcuterie in a Teacup: Elegant Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea
It’s all about boards and trays and jars for charcuterie these days. We present to you: Charcuterie in a Teacup for an Elegant Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. Of course we do. One more way to “cute-ify” a party!
Every February we have a Benefit Supper for our little private Church School. At this Benefit Supper people sell meal tickets to more benefit suppers – special, smaller meals in people’s homes – to raise additional funds. Our contribution to these extra benefit meals has often been a Tea Party we put on in March, while the weather is still fine during the day, and we set up tables on the lawn. One year we had 4 round tables with up to 6 women at each table!
This year our tea will be an Elegant Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea for 12 in our dining room. With charcuterie in a teacup.
We created a Monogram Charcuterie Board here, and have delightful tea party style recipes here and here. Even some recipes for mason jars and sweet breads on boards.
And of course, we help you organize all your recipes and party ideas here and here.
But we’ve never done Charcuterie in a Teacup before.
Charcuterie in a Teacup
for an Elegant Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea
Charcuterie in a teacup is all about the presentation. The teacup’s saucer makes it edible.
I’ve often wondered how people enjoy eating “jar-cuteries” where everything is stacked or squished side by side in the jar. How do you get to those little cheese cubes on the bottom of the jar, to eat with the cracker that’s poking out the top of the jar? Not to mention unrolling the pretty salami rose to add a piece of meat to your cheese and crackers.
I mean, it’s all amazing and imaginative and decorative.
But how do you eat it? Klutzy me would have my place setting littered with pieces of this and crumbs of that.
So, supposedly, teacup charcuterie should be superior, because you can place your tidbits on the saucer to assemble your snack!
Let’s see how the theory stacks up in real life.
What you need:
- Teacups and saucers*
- Deli meats and cheese sticks
- Fruit chunks and skewers*
- Crackers and/or pretzels
- Mixed nuts or trail mix*
- Garnish, such as rosemary or mint sprigs

How to assemble the Mother’s Day Teacup Charcuterie:
Prep all the foods ahead, then assemble the Teacup Charcuteries just before serving. No one wants to eat fruit soaked nuts or crackers.
- Create one or two fruit chunk skewers for each teacup. Break the skewers so they’re about 2.5″ to 3″ taller than the cups.
- Roll the deli meats in lengths slightly shorter than the fruit skewers but taller than the crackers and/or pretzels.
- Place a fruit skewer into each cup.
- Add the meat rolls and crackers/pretzels.
- Tuck in the cheeses.
- Sprinkle with trail mix.
- Wash and dry your garnish. The garnish could also be placed on the saucer after the cup is assembled.
