The DIY Home Planner, a Home Decor Book Review
DIY Home Planner by Karianne Wood:
a new sort of color-by-number home decor book
that gets us from zero to zip-a-dee-do-dah in baby steps.
What’s your Home Decor Love Language?
Steve Chapman’s book “The Five Love Languages” is a great source to help understand the personalities and motivations of the people we love.
“The DIY Home Planner” by Karianne Wood is sort of a Love Languages book to help us understand our home decor personality and reach that elusive end goal we all want for our home.
So what is your Home Decor Love Language?
Do you sigh with relief when your birthday gift is a new throw, or a wall plaque, or a pretty dish? Because this means you can fill an empty spot or replace an item past its prime without any effort on your part.
You are thankful to anyone who says, “You should paint this room a beachy blue.” You run to the paint store, buy “beachy blue” according to the sales clerk, and slap it on your walls.
And you’re happy.
Or, you move into a new-build home in a row of identical homes, and smile and relax, because everything is painted one greige color and the walls will match every piece of furniture and decor you have.
If that’s you, that is absolutely awesome. Because Home Decor is not your first love language and you won’t be stressed out about your home.
Or is Home Decor your first language?
Instead of the first scenario, perhaps you know exactly what you want to do with your spaces, and all that is needed is money and time.
If you’re on a one way street with your decorating goal mapped out, and you’re almost there…
I salute you.
I’m far from there.
I need help. Lots of it.
And that’s where “The DIY Home Planner” comes in. Author Karianne Wood has a book that is like a color-by-number answer to decorating dilemmas.
I don’t have the book in hand yet, but I’ve heard so many good things about it. She takes a problem that for many of us is equal to stringing DNA, and makes it primer level.
This is not a coffee table book.
No offense to the author and the publishers. However, while the book is pretty enough to present to the world from your living room, it’s a book that is meant to be used.
This book has a real purpose. It has so much helpful advice. For example, a chandelier should hang 3 feet above the dining table. And it even tells you how to choose light bulbs!
The workbook guides you, step by step, to a complete and finessed finish in your home you will finally be in love with.
Sigh.
Shouldn’t we all feel able and amazing when it comes to our own special nest?
Since I’ve been friends with Karianne for a few years, I fully endorse this book that has answers to your color questions and lists for your problem spots.
