Geometrics Baby Theme DIY: How to Glam a Gift Bag
How to Glam up a Gift Bag:
Follow the DIY to transform a plain present
into a glitzy Baby Gift in our popular Geometric Theme.
In this post we shared 13 Baby Gift Presentation ideas, and one of the ideas was a glam gift bag DIY for our Geometrics Baby Theme.
We said we’d use a gold foil that wasn’t a typical craft supply. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find it in the style we wanted. We went to Auto Zone (see, we said not typical!) to find car pinstriping, and they didn’t have it in gold. Sometime we’ll show you the fun of using auto pinstriping, but we have to admit that what we found certainly puts on the glam, also.
Here’s the step-by-step to glam up a gift bag:

What you’ll need:
- Solid color gift bag. Ours was a 10″ x 12″ pink one from WalMart.
- Gold foil Tape.
- Tissue and gifts
- Scissors, ruler, pencil
- Ribbon for handles, about 20″ to replace basic gift bag handles
- Optional: “Baby” printed on vellum. Copy and paste the following image into a computer printing program such as Microsoft Publisher or Paint. The “B” should be about 2″ tall. Print on vellum, and then cut into the diamond shape.
How to do it:
- Mark the left to right center of the gift bag, and the left to right center of the “Baby” diamond. Place it on the bag, matching the centers, a little lower than centered top to bottom. Put tiny dots of glue on each diamond tip and glue to the bag.
- Unwrap the gold foil tape, and adhere along the edges of the diamond, leaving the ends long enough to cover the length/width of the front of the gift bag. Add a few filler strips. Trim the gold foil even with the bag’s sides.
- Cut off the handles of the gift bag if they’re as blah as ours were, and punch holes for threading ribbon through.
- Cut two pieces of ribbon. We used some sheer pink print from our stash with glittery edges. I’d had this stuff for eons, and now it was the perfect finishing touch. A stash is so important, because I totally forgot to buy ribbon to replace the ugly twisted paper handles. Thread the ribbon through the holes, making them a suitable length. Trim and fuss into place. Attach the handles with tape or glue to the inside of the bag so they’ll hold up to the gift load.
- Go a little wild with the tissue and fill your lovely bag.
- Add a matching Baby Congratulations card.

Dorothy, I had never thought to glam up a gift bag like this. I LOVE this idea. And it’s so truly satisfying when duct tape can come to the rescue on a project.
Thank you for sharing!
I know, duct tape, right? We keep several designs on hand. You never know when you’ll have to re-bind a cookbook or something.
Thanks for stopping by, Rachel.
