Choosing Wedding Invitations: Which Questions to Ask
Choosing wedding invitations is a big decision.
Know which questions to ask your stationers
before placing your order.
Don’t do what we did. Do what we say you should do!!
Don’t go to the stationers thinking you’ve seen so many invitations in your life you’ll know exactly what to do when you get there.
Believe me, there will be aspects of the process that will catch you by surprise.
So here are some questions you can think about before you place this important order.
Questions to Ask When Choosing Wedding Invitations
- Have you seen samples of invitations the stationer printed for others?
- Can you order snail-mail samples so you know exactly what you’re getting?
- What style of printing do you want? If you want specific type (such as type-set or raised lettering) where can you find the printer you need?
- Do you know how much of your wedding budget is designated for invitations?
- What is the time frame from ordering to delivery?
- Will you get an emailed proof before you place the final order? If the proof comes after purchase, can you change your mind? How many proof changes are included for free?
- Can all the stationery you need (reception cards, program cards, table numbers, thank you cards, etc.) be ordered from the same place?
- Is there a discount or package deal if you order everything at one time?
- Can you have pictures or maps or other graphics included if you wish? How does the image need to be saved and shared? Can your stationers convert color to black and white or sepia? Will this cost more?
- Does the stationer give personal help, guiding you to choices you could consider when you describe your wishes?
- Do you want trendy or traditional? What types of paper are used for either style? What font choices go with your style of invitation?
- Do you want generic invitation sizes for the sake of postage, or are you willing to pay extra postage for larger or square envelopes?
Placing Your Order
- What are the shipping options and costs? Is there a rush option available?
- If any assembly is needed, can you save money by doing it yourself?
- Does the stationers offer envelope addressing? What is the charge? What are the printing styles available? Will this service make the order take longer?
- When do you have to pay? Is there a payment plan, such as a percentage for the proposal, then the rest before the order is shipped?
- Who swallows the costs of printing mistakes? Usually you are responsible if you don’t catch a mistake in the proofs. If the proof was correct and the printer makes the mistake, will they pay the costs? How long will reprinting take?
- What kind of refund do you get if you cancel your order? Do you get all your money back?
- Will the stationers give you contact info to get real-life references from other invitations they’ve printed?
