DIY Your Buffalo-Check Bead Garland Beyond Christmas Décor
Love the Buffalo-Check Bead Garland you had as Christmas décor? You’re ok. Here’s a DIY to upcycle it to celebrate all the holidays of 2022!
Maybe you’ve gone a little overboard with the Buffalo-Check thing in the last few years. (We all did!) It might be time to scale things down a little.
But don’t get rid of your buffalo-check bead garland. Or if you don’t have one, here’s your chance to keep red-and-black or black-and-white checks in your kitchen without going over the top. Just a little to remind you of the cozy, farmhouse feel that made you put that buffalo check all over the kitchen house a few years ago.
All good things come to an end, but only if they’re in-your-face. Try this garland to keep just a touch of the homey check for all of this year’s holidays. Transition from one season to the next with the simple change of a wooden shape!
Here’s how:
Buffalo-Check Bead Garland DIY Goes Beyond Christmas Décor
This is the garland* we’re going to upcycle.
Or if you don’t have the garland, here’s what you need to make your own:
Supplies:
- White, Black and Checked Wood Beads, 16 mm with hemp cord*
- Wood slices*, 2.4″ to 2.8″
- Seasonal Stencils* or get our seasonal designs template printable. Fill in this form and request “Seasonal Designs Template for Bead Garland Wood Slices.” Our seasons are Valentine’s Day, Easter, Summer, School Starts, Fall or Thanksgiving, Christmas. Plus an everyday of the year, “Home Sweet Home.”
Directions:
- String the wood beads together with the hemp cord in the design of your choice.
- Add a tassel to one end.
- Paint, ink, or stencil a wood slice for each season. We chose to ink our designs, to match the black and white theme.
- Tie the wood slice to the opposite end of the bead garland from the tassel.
- Drape your bead garland on a wall, mantel, cabinet or tiered tray.

Thanks for visiting!
Amazing! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a entirely different subject but it has pretty much the same layout and design. Outstanding choice of colors!
Thank you! I’ve enjoyed using this theme. It’s fairly flexible… good for a beginner like me.
