Watch: When Apple, Google and Wordle Inspired Devotional Time
Watch: When Apple, Google and Wordle Inspired Devotional Time. Why is God or Holy Bible or Prophecy not on this list of Watch words?
God, Holy Bible and Prophecy are not on this list of Watch words because Google didn’t put them there.
Today’s Wordle answer was watch. My first guess was “hotel,” then “pithy.” Then “catch.” After that I went through the alphabet wondering which of the many options it would be. When I got to “watch” I just knew that was today’s word. But I don’t think New York Times and I were on the same wavelength.
My first thoughts went to “watch ye, therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” and on from there.
Only the newspaper’s puzzle people know what inspired them to choose the word.
I decided to do an experiment. I typed “watch” into the Google search bar. Four pages of mostly Apple watch ads, followed by video watching, then sports watching, and one story on China watching Russia to learn how to treat Taiwan. In all 22 pages of Google’s options, there was not one – NOT ONE – reference to God.

Watch ye therefore,

Surely everyone in the world right now is watching to see what will happen to Ukraine.
The situation and the people are in our prayers daily. We hear many stories of miracles of God’s providence to the Ukrainians.
Does God take sides in a war that He would never condone?
No, God isn’t political. He will never pick a side. He only picks souls. God reaches down with His infinite love and provides miracles and blessings to inspire us to plod forward on the rocky road.
Many Ukrainians are living heroic lives right now. Yet, there are also Russians who are heroic. One story told of a Russian soldier who drove his tank around and around a small village, terrorizing the people, yet doing nothing. Finally a brave old man approached him and told him to do something already so they could quite fearing what was coming. The young soldier told the old man he was trying to run out of gas so he could report that his mission failed because he ran out of fuel and got stranded.
What, or rather, Who, inspired the young soldier to do that? God is in that soldier’s heart, whether he realizes it or not. Some Russian soldiers may have friends or relatives in the Ukraine. Being forced to bear arms against them must be tearing them apart inside.

Blessed be God,
even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies,
and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort them
which are in any trouble,
by the comfort wherewith we ourselves
are comforted of God.
”
2 Corinthians 1:3,4 KJV
Godly Comfort
from the Father of mercies can always be found. In train stations crowded with empty strollers left by Polish mothers for fleeing Ukrainians whose arms grow heavy with frightened children.
Mercies are found in ancient subways lit by flickering chandeliers.
Mercy abounds in the hearts of Ukrainians feeding hungry Russian soldiers. Soldiers as afraid as the people they attack.
We won’t find mercy from Google, probably. Unless we carefully word our search.
Today, carefully search heart deep
for the tender mercies of the Lord.
Fill earnest intentions with love actions.
Make knee time the most important minutes of the day.
These times we are in require our watch.
