Travel Themed Bridal Shower: Budget Friendly DIY Ideas
Put on a Travel Themed Bridal Shower
for a globe-trotting bride-to-be.
You can plan a budget-friendly party
without sparing style by using these DIY ideas.
Do you know anyone who doesn’t love to travel?
Although lately the pandemic has definitely put a damper on a lot of pleasure traveling,
it’s starting to come back as more places are opening up.
And if you haven’t been able to go to the places you’ve wanted to
it might be even more special to have a travel themed bridal shower.
So you can armchair travel at least, and pretend you’re going places.
Travel Themed Bridal Shower Ideas
There are so many ways you can go with this topic.
Here’s a list of items to think about to start planning:
- Maps and globes
- Passports, tickets and suitcases
- Airplanes, trains, boats or all means of transportation
- Modern or vintage of any of the above
- A travel inspired quote to use on posters, invitations, banners, etc.
- Postcards, postage stamps, airmail envelopes
- Compass, sextant, chronometer
- Geo-caching, GPS, travel direction signs
- Destinations: famous cities, famous landmarks, countries.
Invitations, Posters, Signs, Banners, and more:
So after that brain dump, we’ll start by choosing a quote.
Here’s the inspiration for the phrases we’ll use:
”
Believe in love’s infinite journey,
for it is your own.
”
Rumi
Which becomes, in the short version, the popular “Love is a journey.”
And the longer version, “Love is a journey, beginning at forever, ending at never.”
Stationery Design
Let’s imagine the elements for our stationery.
Right now, we’re loving botanicals, the Mediterranean, and line drawn maps.
We found this map as a free download. Using the lower left corner of the map, we changed it to black and white, then faded it to look more vintage.
An airy, flourishing font seemed appropriate, so we used modernline from DaFont and stretched it wider in PhotoShop.
We chose a typewriter style font for the rest, as that’s the type you commonly see on vintage tickets.
Next we found a fleur-de-lis stamp. Fleur-de-lis is a common symbol for France, and adding a flourish of leaves gave us the botanical element we wanted. The affiliate link we used is similar to ours, the closest we found. It’s a SniggleSloth brand 3/4″ stamp. The leaf stem flourish we designed on Photo Shop Elements.
So there you see our elements.
Now to pick a paper for the invitation.
How elegant can we go? We love the handmade papers from this company,
but we’ll settle for our easily available textured watercolor paper, and tear the edges. Not our first choice, but a good one. They’ll look so elegant in real life.
Finished Invitation:
So here’s what we’ve come up with so far.
What do you think?
Next week we’ll show you the rest of the stationery we plan to make for this shower theme.
