Queen Bee Kitchen Towel DIY Easiest Transfer Method
Today’s post is a Queen Bee muslin Kitchen Towel DIY
using the easiest transfer method you’ll ever try.
My penance project. Sigh. But your gain.
So a couple of weeks ago our little church-school had “playday”
and all the parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles
get together for hours of fun
topped off with a hamburger fry.
Everyone is invited to participate, not only in the fun, but also in producing the meal.
My donation was lettuce for the hamburgers. 2 heads of romaine, washed, dried and cut for hamburgers.
Sounds easy, right?
Yep, for most people it is. Super easy. But leave it to me to make an easy thing ridiculously complicated.
A few of us were in the kitchen prepping our food stuff and “sharing” like we always do at church functions. You know how that sharing goes. We can really get into it. Which is what was happening that afternoon.
I have no idea what we were sharing about, but it had me completely engrossed in the topic and I was prepping my lettuce platters on autopilot. Wash, shake, tamp dry with clean muslin towel, cut out the cores, divide the leaves, tamp a little more, then grab a knife and cut some of the bigger leaves to size.
Well, two things happened.
The knives in our church kitchen were recently sharpened by this wonderful old guy. He comes out to our social hall and we bring all our scissors and knives from home. So convenient. (He said all the husbands should sleep with one eye open that night. So not funny.)
So, yes, the knives are sharp, and I’m in ditz mode. I proceed to slice lettuce leaves, pressing the knife through the leaves onto the muslin towel. Just be aware, sharp knives on muslin have a certain undesirable effect. Which I discovered as I neared the end of my task.
Susan asked me if I did that at home, use kitchen towels for cutting boards. I told her she had no permission to share the happenings of that afternoon with anyone. Well, I guess my embarrassment wore off because I’m sharing. (See how church ladies share???)
So to wind up this tale, I said I would replace the towel, so that’s what’s happening today.
Queen Bee Kitchen Towel DIY
What you need:
- Muslin kitchen towel (affiliate link)
- Black permanent marker or fabric marker
- Bee design, which you can get free from Graphics Fairy website. Or sign up to our email in the form below and get the link to our pattern, which also includes the quotes.
Directions:
- Print nice, dark design on letter paper, in the size you choose.
- Pre-wash and damp dry the muslin towels. Iron while still damp. Because it works so much better than dry ironing. I try to do this with my husband’s shirts, too. Why dry them completely, then turn around and spritz with water or steam iron to get them smooth? Ask me how often the shirts actually get ironed damp, never mind ironed at all until he needs to wear it.
- Our last super simple step is tape the pattern to a solid surface, tape the towel securely on top of the pattern, then trace the design with the permanent marker.
This design works for all sorts of projects: this pillow, or this one for a kitchen chair. Or use it on this towel. It could even work on this charcuterie board for your own kitchen or this apron to match your tea towels.
Try it on napkins, basket liners, place mats, and so much more.
