to bring your new baby home.

Newborn Layette List
This list may look daunting for first time parents, but take it one day at a time,
and before those 9 months of waiting are over,
you’ll be having fun finding everything you need to buy
or be gifted from excited family and friends.
Feeding:
- Bibs
- Burp cloths (plain cloth diapers work great)
- Breast pump (if nursing)
- Milk storage supplies (if nursing)
- Nursing bras (one size larger than pregnancy bra size)
- Nursing pads (disposable or washable)
- Nipple salve
- Bottles and nipples
- Bottle warmer
- Bottle brush
- Formula
Diapering
- 4 to 5 dozen cloth diapers (if using), 8 waterproof diaper covers
- OR 2 boxes of newborn size disposable diapers
- Changing pads
- Diaper rash barrier ointment
- Disposable wipes or 2 dozen washcloths for clean up while diapering
Clothing:
- 8 or 10 onesies
- 8 stretchy sleepers
- 2 newborn hats (the hospital usually gives these)
- 8 pairs of socks or booties
- 2 pairs of scratch mittens
- 2 sweaters or jackets, and more in winter
- Snowsuit or bunting for winter baby
- Infant laundry detergent
- 4 dress up outfits
- 8 receiving blankets
Bath Essentials:
Until baby’s cord falls off you will give sponge baths. After that you’ll need:
- Infant tub
- 12 washcloths
- Baby soap, cleanser, shampoo
- Soft-bristle baby hair brush
- 3 hooded towels
Bedtime:
- Crib and mattress
- 3 waterproof mattress covers
- 4 fitted crib-sheets
- 4 light blankets for crib
- Sleep sack for cool nights
Newborn Layette List Additional Items:
- Infant safety car seat
- Sun shade for car windows
- Stroller
- Playpen
- Sling, baby carrier or wearing wrap
- Diaper bag
- Changing table and pads
- Rocking chair
- Nail clippers or scissors
- Bulb syringe for suctioning mucous
- Baby thermometer
- Eye dropper or medicine spoon
- Baby Tylenol, etc., in case of fever
- Baby monitor
- Plastic hangers for closet
- 2 or 4 pacifiers
- Rattles and other baby toys
- Mobiles
- Night light
