Mr. McGregor’s Garden: A Beatrix Potter Themed Baby Shower
Mr. McGregor’s Garden: A Beatrix Potter Themed Baby Shower
inspired by Peter Rabbit’s frantic adventure combined with fairy garden magic.
The classic stories of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny never get old. And while we already have some Beatrix Potter themed Baby items, we couldn’t resist adding a secret garden twist to the theme.
Mr. McGregor’s Garden Baby Shower Mood Board
Let’s start with a collection of ideas from around the web to get our imaginations going.
A starter list of ideas from the mood boards:
- leaf-green and/or light lime green table-service
- black tablecloth*
- potted plants or cuttings from your yards
- oreo cookie crumbs*
- white picket fence*
- terracotta pots*
- metal watering cans*
- wicker chairs for guests of honor (mommy-to-be, etc.)
Developing the ideas:
- TABLE DECOR:
Long tables with black tablecloths to resemble garden rows. If there’s time, grow vegetables in clay pots for centerpieces. If you don’t have time for that, sprinkle oreo crumbs along the center of the tables for the garden rows, and add faux vegetables that look as if they are planted in the dirt. For example, paint Styrofoam balls orange, then slice in half and add greenery to the top for carrot greens. Paint slightly smaller ones red for radishes. Cut real cabbages in half to plant in the “oreo” dirt. You could use both red and green cabbages. It would be neat to find cabbages with some loose leaves still attached. The leaf green table service will look like greenery at the sides of the black dirt garden rows. - PARTY FOOD:
Bake carrot cupcakes and decorate with frosting carrots or cabbage flowers. Buy a large clay flower pot saucer and use it for a veggie and dip tray. Make sure the clay is food safe, or cover with parchment before adding the veggies. - GUEST OF HONOR SEATING AND WELCOME DECOR:
Put up a picket fence as a backdrop. Use wicker chairs, and surround them with potted plants from your homes or cuttings from your shrubs and trees, stuck into florist buckets of water. Fill a metal watering can or two with fresh cut garden flowers and wispy greenery. A wooden garden wagon filled with flowers would be a nice touch. Create a “pole” with Peter Rabbit’s jacket and add to one of the pots.
