Meal Train List For A New Mom
Completing A Meal Train List for a new Mom is probably one of the best gifts she’ll get. Download our FREE sign up list printable for your group use!
A new baby joined the family of a young couple in our Church family this last weekend. She’s their second little bundle of joy, having a brother who’s two. So needless to say, the mama will be busy, busy. And papa, too, juggling work away from home, and helping to keep the house going when he gets home.
So we have a little thing going, where the last mom to have a baby posts a meal list on our Church lady’s chat, and we all check off the items we want to take to the newest mom. That way we don’t all drop off the same meal, or maybe, if the worst happens, everyone’s too busy to even take a meal.
Meal Train For Moms
The sign-up sheet includes five categories, with five choices for each category. That means she gets 5 items in each category.
Most of us have to sign up for two items, since we’re not as many people available as there are lines to fill.
Each category has a link to a recipe that’s perfect for family eating.
Ideas and Tips for Meal List Choices
The best ideas for Main Dishes are meals that freeze well.
This could include stews, soups, some casseroles, or assembled ingredients that are easy for the new mom to put together.
For example, a pan of meatballs ready to bake, with the sauce in a mason jar on the side. Rather than freeze the meatballs with the sauce, she can add it at the proper time the recipe calls for. One of my meatball recipes says to bake the meatballs for 30 minutes and drain the fat off, then add sauce and bake longer. This also gives her the choice to omit the sauce if it won’t agree with her agenda. Nursing moms like to stay away from foods that are too spicy, for example. So she can eat her un-sauced meatballs looking longingly at her husband’s sauced meat…
Be sure to include any cooking instructions with your food. If it’s ready to eat, include warming instructions. If it needs some assembling, she’ll want to know how to do that, too.
Another idea for ingredients that can be taken unassembled would be a bag of salad greens washed and ready, with the dressing, croutons, and other toppings on the side. Prepped salads can make all the difference to a busy mom, allowing her healthy choices in the time she has for preparing a meal. Versus choosing something not as healthy from the snack shelf.
Thekitchn.com says what you should really bring to a new mom is fruit, hydration, nutritious snack, breakfast foods and one-handed meals. Definitely food for thought!

Anything you do, especially prayer that her dream will work out, is very welcomed.
You can read about her story in any post that is labeled “Our Journey With Autism.”
