Random Notes and Scribbles
about silver sandals, splat painting,
and the best ever macaroni and cheese.
I love these Saturday mornings, when I sit down and yack at you all.
You’re a captive audience (at least those who really love us enough to actually read these) and I have all these warm and fuzzy feelings because there are many people out there in the big ol’ ball that is our crazy world, who have lives and families and interests that take them to the world wide web and find
little ol’ kimenink!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You fill a part of our lives that we need filled exactly by you! Even if we don’t know your names. And we might never see your faces. You are a person, you are needed, and
You are Amazing!

Our Monday post is a great big roundup of 23 Wedding Planning Tips. We collected all our helpful wedding posts in one productive place, a guide for all the tasks that involve paper and lists to get from engagement to marriage.
We’ve fallen in love with Protea blossoms, and so we created 4 Fabulous Fall Protea Prints For Your Kitchen as a free download, to post as wall art or make shelf sitters for your table vignettes. Protea look like they could be part of the succulent family, so this art can fit well if you succulents in your décor.
Then the Fall Paint-Splat Classroom Crafts With Free Templates posted just in time for my friend, who is substitute teaching in our g’little’s school, to use for an art project this Friday. She said the students totally loved the painting.
My sister sent me her notes on a Bible study of Zipporah, and I got enthused about diving into the story. Zipporah is only mentioned in 3 places in the Bible, but it seems she could have had a huge story. Her marriage to Moses, who led the great Exodus, must have been a saga of huge proportions. Just the little I discovered inspired the post “Drawing Living Water: Zipporah, A Fugitive, and a Well.” Because, like Rebekah, she met her future at a well.
The Best Macaroni and Cheese Recipe.
This week the Church ladies started our Fall to Spring Sewing Circle. Every second Tuesday of the month we meet for the equivalent of a school day and make projects for the community. Sometimes we make blankets for hurricane victims or foreign countries. Years ago we made rag dolls for the Children’s Hospital to use to teach their little patients about colostomies. That was a very rewarding project! We’ve made Samaritan’s Purse Christmas boxes, pillowcases with women’s items for a homeless shelter. Every year we do something a little different.
But no matter what we’re working on, we have a potluck lunch together with our little private school that is on the same campus. This last week, our first circle of the season, it was my turn to work with the meal. Plan the menu, get the food ready, serve it and clean up. Two of us do this job, with others helping when we need it.
Our menu included this macaroni and cheese recipe, and it is definitely a keeper. Not only with the children, but the moms as well.
New products listed this week:
This week we finally listed our Adventure Forest Keepsake Calendar, both in our website shop and our Village of Artisans Shop.
‘Ink Re-Cap 147 Most-Read-Post of the week:
I think I’ll cut this section next week if the result is the same again… although I’m grateful for the traffic to our blog! We discovered that the uptick in views can be credited to a webmistress who linked her roundup of 42 apple craft ideas to this post! Thanks so much, handsonaswegrow.com!
Note: There’s a side bar on all blog pages that helps you get to the topic you most want to read about. The main topics are Weddings, Babies, Kitchen, Crafts and Inspirational Stuff.

Inspiring Inklings of Real Life
Silver Sandals Every Day.
Kim has a love for shine and glitz and she’s happy to share with her nieces. She bought a pair of silver patent pleather sandals with 4″ heels for them to play-wear, so last weekend when the g’littles stayed with us those sandals made constant appearances. Such fancy little ladies!
The biggest g’little wanted to wear them to Freddy’s for our weekly Saturday night hamburger fix. I asked her if she could find another pair that was a little more age appropriate. She did. There was a pair of silver sandals with flat soles in Kim’s closet that almost fit.
Besides silver shoes, they requested their hair combed in French braids and messy buns whenever they left the house. That was so much fun for me. It’s been many years since I combed little girl’s hair. My second g’little has super thick, super tangly, hair so that was a brand new experience for me.
Book recommendation: “I Still Believe“*
by
They met in college. Married. Then 3 months later her ovarian cancer came back, and she died. But he still believed. In the midst of his mourning, prostrate on his parent’s couch wondering how life could go on, God told him to write a song. “I Still Believe.”
The book is inspiring. And God lead him on to a happy marriage with a girl who first said “he’s wasn’t my type,” family and faith. He has done many thinks in the name of the Lord. The world needs more people like him.
I give it 4.5 stars. Not five because it’s not my usual type of book.
Talk about loss with your children with:
“I’ll Always Love You”* by Hans Wilhelm. 1988
“Elfie the dachshund is the best dog anyone could every ask for. Every day, she and her owner explore and play together. And every night, her owner tells her “I’ll always love you.” Elfie owner grow up togther, but growing up can mean having to say goodbye to the ones you love. This tender story is a perfect way to make the topic of loss a little less scary for kids (and grownups).” via Amazon
