DIY Wedding Keepsake Window Cricut Tutorial
DIY Wedding Keepsake Window.
Minimalist style on a vintage window
to remember the best days of our lives.
Cricut vinyl decal tutorial.
Our little Nebraska family reunion earlier this summer
wasn’t all fun and games.
There was some work, too.
The guys spent a day replacing all the original wood frame windows
in the little old farmhouse by the river.
THEN
I got to pick two of the old windows to bring home.
And today is the day
to show you what happened to one of them.
A Wedding Keepsake Window
I wanted one of them to be a keepsake window to commemorate our marriage journey.
To remember our First Day, a day we met in a state far from our homes, never dreaming that someday we’d be more than two people who crossed paths on vacation.
Another pane is for the Yes Day, after we went from strangers who met twice over the course of 5 years, became friends, and then, more. May 7, 1982 was the day I said yes to his proposal.
The last pane is for the Best Day, August 7, 1982. Almost 39 years ago now, and no regrets.
(Did I tell you we’re going to San Francisco for our anniversary this year? We’ve never been there together.)
So, back to the window.
First we make a blueprint plan.
We used Photoshop for the plan using the dimensions of each window pane, in our case 10″ x 11″.
These windows would make a wedding gift any couple would surely treasure.
So we’ve included a source for a new window that’s similar to our vintage frame.

but Amazon kindly shares a few pennies with us if we send customers their way.)

What you need for this project:
- 6 pane window
- Cricut or another cutting machine, such as Silhouette
- Photoshop or another design program; or try an online program like Canva to plan the separate panes. The words and numbers can be designed on Cricut Design Space, but the leaf spray will need to be uploaded as a JPEG file. If you want to use the same design as ours, you can sign up for our email list and design files and download it free. Sign up here, and ask for “wedding window leaf spray.” Then upload it and adjust to the size you need.
- Black adhesive vinyl
- Transfer tape
- A cutting mat
- Either a Cricut Tools Basic Set or tweezers and a plastic credit card to scrape.
Cricut Cutting Directions:
- Load your designs onto Design Space. If you need help, head over to this website where they have a great tutorial. You can save each design in layers, or make a separate saved file for each pane.
- Place your vinyl on the cutting mat with the vinyl on top.
- Load the mat onto the machine, and set the dial to Vinyl.
- Follow the prompts from the machine and cut the vinyl.
- Remove the mat from the machine and weed the extra vinyl from the design.
How to Apply the Vinyl:
- Clean the window panes.
- Mark the placement of the vinyl on the panes.
- Cut transfer tape the size of the design.
- Remove the liner from the transfer tape.
- Use the grid to align the tape on the design. Adhere and press out any bubbles.
- Peel the liner from the vinyl. The design will be held in place with the transfer tape.
- Place the design on the window pane. Work from the center of the design to the edges, pressing firmly until it’s smooth.
- Start at a corner and peel the transfer tape carefully from the vinyl.
Helpful Tips:
- Always pull the transfer tape off at a 45° angle.
- Don’t pull fast. Use a slow, gentle rocking motion.
- The thinner your design, the slower the removal should be.
- If you apply the vinyl to the back of the window, reverse the design on Design Space so it shows in the right direction for viewing.
Ahh.
Isn’t she gorgeous, isn’t she grand?
My sentimental soul loves me some keepsake art!
