where shepherds watched their flocks of sheep

under starlit skies.

When hosts of angels dazzled even the stars

as they proclaimed the birth of the Baby Jesus.

Don’t you think there were deer among the other wild animals that night,

mama deer with their tiny fawns?

If there was room in the stable for more animals, I just imagine there would have been a dainty fawn or two watching from the shadows, with all the other animals.

you whisper, and baby will still and go silent

and fall asleep in sweet peace.
