Beaded Poster Hanger DIY: Modern Farmhouse Décor
A Beaded Poster Hanger DIY:
upcycled wood and rustic paint finish,
then add new wooden beads,
for modern farmhouse style décor.
Do you buy posters?
Is that still a thing?
The only ones I’ve purchased since I was a teenager are timeline posters for my sons. They’re pretty awesome, and they might like poster hangers for them, too.
Our poster hanger today is geared more for printables, e.g. ours is an 11″ x 14″ paper print.
A small, quick and easy project you can do in an hour. (If you have junk stashes like ours.)
Beaded Poster Hanger DIY
What I used:
- 4 – 3/8″ x 1 1/2″ x 14″ wood pieces from my husband’s stash (I think they were plant stakes.)
- round wooden beads in two sizes: 3/4″ and 7/8″
- jute twine
- 4 short wood screws from stash, screwdriver, nail, hammer
- White craft paint
What I did:
- I raided my husband’s wood stash and picked out my wood pieces and screws. Used his saw to cut the wood to the right length. I nailed a small nail through the wood at each end of the back strips of wood to make holes for the screws. Be careful with this, as this method can crack a dry stick. Yep, it happened to me. Prepped the wood by sanding and dusting.
- How the screws will go into the wood, from the back piece through to the front piece. Screws need to be short enough not to protrude through the front.
- Painted all wood fronts and ends white. We left the backs because they will face together. For finish ideas, see our Faux Farmhouse Painting tutorial. Let dry between coats. I used white craft paint. When the paint was dry, I sanded off some corners and used the screwdriver to chip off paint here and there.
- Next I threaded the beads with the twine, leaving plenty on the ends for working with. (Hint: Glue the end of the twine and squish with your fingers into a tight point. This lets it feed through the beads much easier.) Curved the beaded twine upwards from one of the wood pieces, which will be the top of the hanger. Guessed on the height of the curve, maybe 2″ from the hanger top. Stapled the twine 1 1/2″ from each end of the hanger to the top back of the front top wood piece.
- Placed the art beneath staples and twine on the back of the top piece. Placed a piece with nail holes on top, and screwed the two pieces together tightly, to hold the print securely.
- Repeated step 5 with the bottom wood pieces.
- Finished front view.
- Hanging!
How to change out the art in your beaded poster hanger:
- Loosen the screws just enough to stick your art print between the two wood slats, top and bottom.
- Tighten the screws back up to hold the print firmly.
You can easily change out your art as often as you like. Such as with our Wings of a Dove art print. Or look for our seasonal prints like these Last Minute Christmas Prints.
Or, my favorite idea, use this as a way to display your your little’s homework, or your child’s-keepsake-hand-foot-print-art. Make a few hangers and hang a collage in a hallway for a family art gallery.
We hope you enjoy this beaded poster hanger DIY.
Show us your twist on the project.
Until next time,
