Aurora Lights, A Shimmer Watercolor Winter Card
Aurora Lights Winter Card DIY painted with shimmer watercolors.
Inspired by an awe-inspiring display of the Northern Borealis.
Some happenings leave indelible impressions.
Terrifying moments.
Awe-inspiring feelings.
Intensely beautiful scenes.
Then one crisp snow-wrapped evening in my northern home, those impressions all slammed into me at one time.
Three of us sat around a campfire in the snow. Talking. Laughing. But mostly enjoying the beauty of a winter wonderland. Our tiny town’s slogan was “where prairie meets pine” and our farm was right there. Pines silhouetted against a clear star-studded sky made bright by reflected snow.
Until THIS happened…
Aurora Lights, amazing beyond any previous sighting.
We stood to our feet, faces lifted to the light, gasping in wonder.
Who could remain seated before such beauty?
We had watched northern light shows before, but never, ever with these all-surrounding colors that pulled our eyes up, up into an apex of awe. It was as if we were centered in a pyramid that stretched to heaven, and if we only had better eyesight, we could have viewed God or the angels at the tip of this cone of pure white light.
Now…
I understand how the shepherds must have felt as they stood under the bright light of the angels proclaiming the coming of the Messiah.
Now…
I think I know how the coming of the light will be when the Messiah returns to take us up to heaven.
And if it’s like this…
If the light is even half as awesome as that night was, (and I know it will be so much more,)
I can hardly wait.
This memory flooded my mind and inspired this shimmery watercolor card,
Aurora Lights Watercolor Winter Card DIY
This hand painted attempt is not even close to the miracle of that night.
However, we’re happy if this card can praise the impact of God’s nature even in a small way. And if we can show you how to accomplish it, our cup is full.
If you’ve never been in the far north and seen the Aurora Borealis Lights in real life, you probably won’t understand our awe and wonder.
However, if you have marveled at any of God’s natural wonders, and stood in eyes-wide-appreciation…
then you will know the joy we felt that night under breath-taking northern skies.
