Adorable Sock Snowman Family DIY: Crafting With Children
Make this adorable Sock Snowman Family!
A fun, easy DIY for crafting with your children.
Upcycle from your stash for economical creating.
A few years ago my family had a reunion, and my 3rd sister’s family was in charge of organizing it. She made all kinds of cute décor, and these snowmen were part of a table vignette.
I’ve been wanting to try making them ever since, and this is the year!
I think they’d make a cute project to do with your littles to give to their school teachers or Sunday School teachers for Christmas.
Because who wouldn’t fall in love with a family of these??

How to DIY your Sock Snowman Family:
- Cut the foot part of the white tube sock off. You’ll only use the tube part.
- Turn the tube inside out and wrap a rubber band super tightly around one end. Dab it with some hot glue to make sure it won’t open later. Turn it back right side out.
- Fill the sock with rice. Tamp the rice down as you go, so the sock stretches and you get a nice fat snowman.
- Close the top with another tightly wrapped rubber band.
- If you want to “dress” your snowman with a sweater, use a patterned ankle sock. Cut off the foot and pull the tube part up the snowman around the center (tummy) part. Tie ribbon or twine at the top of the “sweater” pulling tightly to divide the white sock into 2 “snowballs.” Make the head smaller than the body. Make a snowman family with different sizes of socks.
- Use toe of the ankle sock for a hat. Flip it up on the bottom like a toque, and tie the tip with twine or ribbon so it looks more like a hat. Add embellishments if you wish.
- Glue buttons or pearls on for the eyes and tummy buttons.
- Done! Use a lint brush to grab any loose fuzzies.
